View Full Version : Hey Diablo, Greenhorn Race! Let's get next generation hooked

Hey was down there the other day and after making several runs down Greenhorn, onto the DH trail next to alpine, onto alpine and down to the bottom it occured to me. My son was the reason I was riding those trails repeatedly. How would the outcome work if Diablo held a few kids races such as Platty does that would be for <15 yr. kids down those trails. After making a trip down with my 10 year old I realized that he is just too small to compete in the regular domination series, we went down the Dom #1 course and although he rode the entire thing it took him darn near 15 minutes to make it top to bottom which is impractical. Just an idea to help bring in the next generation of downhillers.:lighten:

Travis, Joey and Bruiser will be top 3... lol
For little pipsqueaks they are fast little ****ers!
What about us Old, Fat, loser, lazy men race?

i personally wouldn't race it and I'm sure joey or JP wouldn't either... but i think there should be a senior class (like 30+?)
even though i think dave should race either way! and i know he can do very good!

Hear hear.
However, for the kids race, you might need to lower the maximum age. I've heard there are some very fast 15 year olds that ride at diablo.

Blasphemy....
Dave's the slowest guy in the mountain! He just buys expensive, great looking bikes so people can think he's fast!

TRAVIS! HA! I'd race, and i'd win, dont let my kind attitude fool, you.... i'd shut the 9 year olds on hardtails down. lol, and i love greenhorn to be honest, it's a great trail to haul ass on when it's dry.

You know, I thought of that as well until it occurred to me the implications of the race course. By running Greenhorn to Alpine, you are basically sawing off a huge chunk of the mountain for non-racers because of how many trails cross, intersect or run in the flight path of these.

i was actually just joking travis.... and i'm still racing intro, kuz i admit, im not as fast as you, or joey, or the other AM riders.... i'd rather pull top 10 in intro than like top 50 in AM. Kyles the one who should be in AM, he beat the 5th place time by like 30 second, and so should his friend, so i dont want to hear any bull **** about me racing big guy, kuz i will come over there, and knock u the **** out. end of story.

btw kyle is going to race intro.. but in a few races, he did just start racing.

Definitely. There should be a 30+, slow old folks division.

There's a potential solution to this. First, don't close those trails for practice. Everyone (including potential noob racers) is riding them anyway so just leave them open all day, there really isn't a need for dedicated practice time. Then hold the race at 2:00 or 3:00pm (and limit the number of registrants for time considerations) so that those trails will only be closed for an hour or two for non-racers.

Yeah, 40+ is a better idea................heck, 30+ is at least 1/5 of the riders at Diablo on any given day, myself included.

How about, continue with the team format. Father + son teams compete.

Or make it a "family race"...any two members of a family - father/son, mother/daughter (or vise-versa), brothers/sisters, husband/wife, uncle/nephew, etc.

I don't know why everything on this board has to get de-railed... but back on topic...
That is an excellent idea, altough as stated by Spylab, using greenhorn as a coarse would shut down nearly half of the mountain. Altough I think what Diablo had in mind with greenhorn is to get new/young riders to build/progress to some of the other trails.
It would be nice to see diablo set up a kids race coarse, or area. That way everyone can race on the same day. And I would say the limit would have to be like 10yrs. or have a Juniors intro - pro/am split.

Um because Fox, Jerz, Demo, 303 thinks that everyone actually cares about the stupid 8th grade banter that goes one here. Most of the "I'm fast, he's faster" bullshvt should be posted on myspace or facebook. None of them can actully ride - all you need to do is cross reference the who are you post with the open results, crack a can of beer and have a good laugh. What's even funnier is watching them jump, one of them looks like he's having a seizure in mid-air.
The real unfortunate thing is it's the first time runninghismouth actually has something intelligent to say, and does not make any references to his imaginary DH career.
So anyway, Running12 has a good point, a kids race - or day would be a good opportunity to get younger riders involved.

Since this idea has caused so much controversy, I say we switch the race from Greenhorn over to the fire road. If that gets out of hand, we could just see who can get up the lift the fastest.
