View Full Version : How to make your GT Ruckus Pivot not suck.

I got sick of the amount of play in my GT Ruckus rear swing arm and decided to redo the rear pivot. Since you can't get parts for the thing anywhere I looked to good old McMaster-Carr for some bronze bushings. Thankfully I was able to source some that would only need minimal modification. After an evening of scraping bearings and sanding the rear feels brand new, with easy rotation and no lateral or torsional play in it. I had some Delrin spacers machined to fit between the swing arm and the frame.

The Old bushings....a little shagged I think....

Bling Bling new bushings....

These holes for the pivot were oval by about .020". I pressed the bushings in and the reshaped the bushing hole for the pivot pin since it conformed to the oval holes in the swing arm.

nice.

I would, but each bike is going to be so different in the way the bushings fit, I don't think you could make them so they universally fit each bike the way they should. They took a lot of scraping and fitting to get a nice slip fit on the pivot pin.

really? I didn't know they had that much manufacturing inconsistencies between Ruckus I-drive 2.0s.

I think hes talking about wear and having to compensate for that on a per bike basis...

Nice fix.

Dude, who the hell has a glass of wine when they work on their bike? I like wine, but that's just wrong.

Well there are times a man has to romance a bike a little. :brow:

Not trying to be an e-dik, but those stanctions on the fork look really worn down.

Stanchions can lose a considerable amount of strength once the ano layer has worn all the way through.

I have no idea how that part of the stanchions compares to the upper part in terms of stress. In other words, even if worn down, does that make the worn part the weaskest part of the tube compared to the higher leverages stress on the top?

Yes, booties. Stanchions are mint.
