I've run 3 different sprockets on my deity cranks now and always had a tight spot. I'm pretty sure my current sprocket is true, and I have come to the conclusion that the tight spot must be a result of an uneven crank/sprocket interface. I kinda just got a new sprocket too, but I was thinking a spline drive sprocket like the tree one might solve the problem. What would be the easiest fix?

Could be a bent bottom bracket spindle as well. Not likely, but possible.

Got any other cranks to toss on there to troubleshoot it?

No other 3pc crank arms to test with. The spindle seems to be fine, will slide out either side without any trouble.

Are you using a Deity sprocket? Also, how bad is the tight spot (and how tight are you running your chain)? All single speed BMX-style (no spider) sprockets generally are very slightly out-of-true since they are not connected to the crank arm in a way that will ensure that the sprocket is centered (i.e. by using at least 2 mounting bolts or welding the cog to the arm).

This is the problem, hands down.

I would like to keep my current flybikes sprocket if possible since it is pretty new and matches my bike and whatnot... but I guess I either get new cranks, or go with a spline drive.. right?

new cranks wont solve it. It is normally the sproket being "untrue", so either buy a new sproket or go with splined drive.
