I bought an Iron Horse MKIII to do some freeriding. It was a bit of an impulse purchase and I didn't investigate all the parts before buying. It came with a DT Swiss X455 wheelset.

Now, I've ridden the bike a half dozen times on some light trails with no drops whatsoever, and it's been fine.

Today, I took it out for it's first freeride with a few drops here and there (3' max height). I had just checked out the spokes and they were all taught.

At the end of the ride, I sense a wiggling in the rear wheel and discover a humungous warp in the wheel.

I'm not a "hard" rider, and weigh 155lbs. I wouldn't expect my wheels to fold like that, but then it dawned on me that wheels might just be too wussy.

Anyone else have these wheels? Do they just suck?

Edit: turns out they're XC wheels...go figure.

After a couple rides you should have your mechanic true and tension the wheels. Depending on who built the bike, the wheels may or may not have been stressed and trued when it was put together.
