Firefox text question

When I use Firefox, and I do like it better than IE, the text seems way more pixelated and just funny looking. I've tried all the font adjustments I can find, any ideas?

When you go to View > Text Size, and click on "Normal" does it fix it?

nope, but the bigger I make the text with the mouse wheel, the cleaner it gets but then it's like reading a billboard from 3 feet away!

I am using a laptop (Dell inspiron) but it does it on my home LCD monitor as well.
