so i think the battery on my macbook pro has jumped the shark. i never seem to be able to get any decent length of time on it without having to plug it in. just now i unplugged it and right off the bat it said that it had about 45 minutes of battery left and yet the thing is fully charged.
are there any specific kinds of batteries that have good reliability and hold their charge well instead of just running out of juice after 30 min?

Never fear, I've come across this multiple times at work. You'll have to recalibrate the battery with the following procedure:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2339.html
If this doesn't help, bring your mb to your local Apple Store so they can exchange it. I'm assuming it's less than a year old or under Applecare?
edit: by exchange it, I mean exchange the battery
