front page of yesterday's WSJ says

"The stock market is trading right where it was nine years ago. Stocks, long touted as the best investment for the long term, have been one of the worst investments over the nine-year period, trounced even by lowly Treasury bonds".

"When dividends and inflation are factored into returns, the S&P 500 has risen an average of just 1.3% a year over the past 10 years, well below the historical norm, according to Morningstar Inc. For the past nine years, it has fallen 0.37% a year, and for the past eight, it is off 1.4% a year".

another glowing testimonial to GWB's performance. and this from his own right wing.

9/11 has a lot to do with those figures. The market went in the toilet after that. The fact that we have been fighting two wars doesn't help either.

funny how some types acknowledge we were simultaneously fighting the japs, germans, italians, all on multiple fronts in both eastern & western hemispheres, and comfortably & correctly call that a singular "world war", yet this is somehow starkly different.

you're kidding me, right?

you're equating the war on terror and the iraq war with world war 2?

how would you identify the entity which is being fought in the gwot?
is it also present in iraq?
why should it now be categorized as separate & distinct?

Uh...because there was....

hold on...big boy pants time...

NO F*CKING LINK TO AL QAIDA WITH REGARDS TO IRAQ.

We went to Afghanistan with the purpose to get Osama and al Qaida.
Some might still think we went into Iraq with the same purpose (al Qaida) ....BUT....

hold on...big boy pants again...

IT WAS A LIE. NO LINK BETWEEN THE TWO ACTUALLY EXISTED.

It does now because of the....

hold on....

BIG F*CKING POWER VACUUM...

That's why it's two separate instances. I continue to view it as two separate fronts.

We continue to bomb caves and get the shaft from mountain goats in one area.
We ousted a #1 a-hole and put a country into civil war in another.

They do not go hand in hand like GerItalApan.

<stuff>when i bring up WWdeucebigalo, it's not to assert congruence, but to demonstrate strong correlation.

strong enough for john kerry to connect the dots when he was campaigning for prez last go around.

funny how so many anti-bush types in congress (a.k.a. non-lieberman democrats) bemoan the "iraq war", but in spite of being in control of both chambers in congress, have yet to do anything short of "emboldening" our war president. not one bit of wartime funding legislation has ever failed to make it off the hill.

now why is that?

After watching the Frontline show, I no longer blame GWB. He is an idiot and only does what he is told. I would argue that over the course of his presidency that the only choice he ever made on his own, was to eat pretzels and that nearly killed him.

You can't blame the mentally incapable.

He still deserves blame...in a just world he'd be tried and hung just like his good buddy Saddam.

How do you choke on a piece of snack food that comes with an existing airhole anyways?

Pick at least one!

1. they were for the war before they were against it.

2. that soap-dish IQ'ed Bush tricked them into voting for war stuff.

3. only voted for war funding because of the troops (ok, for re-election purposes).

4. anti-war voters are so stoned that congress can blame everything on Bush.. yeah.. Bush did it!!!

I'll choose:

5. we'll be granted as liberators - McCain

you're spot on. the dems are not anti-war except to garner votes.

this doesn't justify the war, however, but instead just shows how useless both parties are.

<response to stuff>

I'm with Toshi on this one. The peeps getting the votes whore themselves out to whatever demographic they need to to stay where they are. (Someone once said, "It's good to be King.")

Of course there's a "strong correlation" where someone wants there to be one....just look at any of Renegade Rick's comments in any thread...Conspiracy Theory 101.

What I was trying to get at is that "strong correlation" doesn't equal "what the hell really happened".

Plus, the only good use for connect the dots is to spell "BOOBS". Just like 4004+4004 on a calculator.

why is that everyone forgets that Congress's approval ratings make W look like the next Jeebus?

on congressional approval ratings (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=3242551):

The Democrats in Congress have lost much of the leadership edge they carried out of the 2006 midterm election, with the lack of progress in Iraq being the leading cause.

gee, i wonder who's stopping this lack of progress in iraq?

"If the Democrats want to test us, that's why they give the president the veto. I'm looking forward to vetoing excessive spending, and I'm looking forward to having the United States Congress support my veto."

Bush was the first president since John Quincy Adams not to exercise his veto power during a complete four-year term, even though the Republican-controlled Congress was on a spending spree.
