If the weather is good, I'm thinking of some riding @ the shed this saturday. Anyone up? Anyone else have the use of a shuttle vehicle? I may be able to swing a truck.

I know there are some people planning to be up there on Saturday. I might be up there if the weather is OK.

Right now Saturday is forecast high of 52, which basically means 42 at the top of the Shed.

Fellas,

Just a reminder....as with any trail or jump please don't ride it if it's REALLY wet. We're getting rain right now, and for the next day or so. So Saturday may be a little sloppy. The gnomes have had quite the time filling in ruts on the blue side. I'll be out on Saturday, don't know what kind of ride I'll be doing (DH or XC), but I'll b there.

As long as it doesn't rain all day today and is somewhat nice, I will be out there.

I will only ride rain once in a great while, if it's raining, this will not be one of the times I ride. Looks like I may have use of the d-sel though. Hopefully the weather changes a bit.

Mr. Wask. Im not sure which particular random tree chopping you are refering to and if it is malicious to our trails or not BUT.... from what i was informed by a local gentleman he said that the state is in the process of removing a non indigenous tree from the watershed because it is very fast growing, much faster than the slow, old growth oaks we have in MD and can take over a forest and force out the old growth oaks and prevent any new growth. this tree has characteristics of smooth, lightly colored, thin bark, straight trunk and branches and often grows in almost a patch with three or more trees within a couple of feet. I ran into a forestry maintenance group working on the steep side the other week and they were felling 2-6" trees left and right so if you see trees cut down with chain saws in mass and just left where they fell this is why, the state is trying to stop this species from growing before it damages the shed's ecosystem. if this not what you are refering to and there is some dick cutting down old growth oaks in the shed, keep an eye out and remember helmetes make great wepons.

see you all in 2 weeks, ride safe, ride hard.

As long as it doesn't rain today that much I think that things will be alright on the steep side. Thoughts?

Looks pretty clear now, tomorrow is supposed to be pretty nice as of this mornings weather. If it does rain a bit today, maybe an afternoon ride tomorrow, to let it dry out a bit.
Looks like the D-sel will be in use by the girlfriend tomorrow. Annual tech in Mt. Airy. To bad she can't pull the race car w/ my E30. Oh well. I need the exercise anyway.

Dave hit me up, I'm going to do some "housekeeping" on Sat, so my boyz from Dirty Jersey can enjoy all of what we have to offer. I will be there in the AM.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. However the thing that made it seem odd is that the trees weren't cut all the way down. They just had chainsaw cuts about halfway up damaging, and probably killing the tree, but not felling it completely.

Yeah im not sure about the technique of their cutting as much as i am the species and the reason. their goal regardless of how they do it is to eliminate the species of tree from the shed before it gets out of hand. i would imagine they would cut them 3' off the ground if they thought it would be faster and do the trick. and the group Dave and I saw were a bunch of volunteers so they probably had even less reason to do it whole heartedly. just as long as its the situation i described thats the reasoning.

i just got back from a pretty epic buzzard rock loop at EF. we are hitting up the shed for shuttling tomorrow. is anyone else going to be up there and for those of you who were up there today, how were the conditions?

EF was dry and a little chilly... and we only saw 2 other bikers out on the trail. :disgust1:

I was up there, there trails were dry, but not too dry, about perfect. It was about 45 degrees, but not bad with your gear on. The shuttle road was dusty though.

Dave and Brookes were there doing trail work, so props to them.

Only bad thing today was not too many trucks. I only saw one truck up there, but I wasn't riding with them. I was shuttling 5 people and 4 bikes in my Subaru Outback.

That sucks, hope you heal up soon. The shed was awsome today, trails were perfect. I did lose my helmet and goggles, somehow. I sort of want a new helmet but I would like them back. Its a black azonic helmet that has all the stickers sharpied over. If you see it or have it please let me know. Thanks.

Riding in the shed two weeks ago, trying to be cool and jump/gap a rock garden section that was a little down hill shooter opposed to keeping wheels on the ground and just picking a line. I wasnt ballanced center and so when my fork hit the rock i was using as a booter to get air it compressed and sent me over the bars, my right knee was not tucked in and i took the edge of a large rock to the soft fleshy area right above the knee cap. swelling is gone, bruising is gone but there is a soft bump about the size of half a golf ball where the impact was and i can feel the tendons and ligmanets are still weak even though i have about 95% mobility of the knee. 45-50 hrs a week on my feet at work doesnt speed up the healing but i can feel it improving, i hope to be on the bike week after tomorow. But who knows. its early in the season so im in no rush to get back, plenty of riding left

sorry to hear you couldn't find your helmet. hopefully, someone just picked it for you thinking everyone had left for the day since we were the last ones left on that side.

ps: what a great way to end "spring break"! it's back to teaching tomorrow but i ended my break with bike touring on asateague island with the girlfriend on thursday, dirt jumping at 495 on friday, epic trail ride at elizabeth furnace on saturday, and shuttling at the shed on sunday. i wish i could do this every week... oh yeah, there's always the summer break!

I watched him touch down a little too soon with the rear wheel, the next time I turned around he was laying in front of a tree. Hope he's okay, he seemed to be having a good time.
