I'm racing my mtb at our local bmx races. Since I keep winning using my rear der as a tensioner only, the "officials" said I cant race with it that way. So I need a tensioner that will last and not drop my chain. I mainly just race this bike, but I do jump also.

Gusset has a nice one I am thinking about picking up, simple. Like you I am using the old DR hanger as well. ITs working ok but the axle stil creeps up on me and my chain looses tension about once every few rides.

Here it is btw: http://www.gussetbikes.com/gusset/product_images/large/chgu-14mm-k.jpg

Edit:
Ohhh wait, you said vertical, nvm...

pretty funny about what the officials said. check out the rennen and DMR tensioners. they are both said to be very reliable. both can be found on pricepoint and other sites i believe.

oh and i see you're from medford? i lived in klamath falls for a few years when i was really young. i really want to go back up and ride sometime.

This one is very good!!! http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/15164-075_RENRL6-3-Parts-664-Single-Speed-Parts/Rennen-Rollenlager-Single-Speed-Chain-Tensioner.htm
But buy it from you LBS not online!

whatever you do, go with a bolt in place tensioner over a spring loaded tensioner...

THE BEST tensioner is by far a half link chain

Yes. When I had the Rennen, it was nothing but trouble. It would slide around and be a little bitch.

Really? Not doubting you but that is very far from the norm. I've always heard great things about the Rennen and use one myself with no issues whatsoever.

perhaps you were the little bitch and didnt tighten it down like you were supposed to? ;) ;)
my rennen was perfect. and when i was done with it, i sold it and now someone else is using it and loving it.

Well my bike was messed up anyways, the dropouts were machined to deap on the drive side so my wheel was always out of whack and all sorts of non-sence. I hated Iron Horse then.

Just ordered the rennen. Thank you monkeys. Should get here by the weekend so the officals can keep hassling me about racing with the bmxers.
