View Full Version : Whatever happened to . . . ?

The post about Lopes that has gradually evolved into a discussion about the dominance of the Aussies and Kiwis got me to thinking. Whatever happened to some of those riders who showed so much promise 6-8 years ago, but eventually faded out of the picture?

Please chime in if you know anything about the whereabouts of some of these old-school folks, and for that matter, feel free to post up others I have forgotten.

+Henry O'Donnell (didn't he get a top-5 in the junior worlds one year)?

+Colin Bailey (always at the top of the NORBA circuit for years, despite his uncanny resemblance to Eddie Munster)?

+Liam Panozzo (at a very young age (16?) this dude qualified 2nd at a NORBA finals in Durango that had the same roster as most World Cups)?

+"Suede" Boots (I seem to remember some doping scandal?)?

+Mike King?

Whatever happened to Pex.....?....:monkey:

His Risse fork blew up when he came up short on an attempt to jump the creek at Plattekill, and the resulting crash caused him lingering pain that could only be curbed by smoking tons of pot. Eventually, his mom got sick of the weed smoke and kicked him out of her basement. Last I heard, he and Dangerous Dan Dickan were putting together a fitness video, selling apres-race headware, and trying to track down Ninenine, who stole Pex's remaining pot and threw his bike in the lake at Mount Snow.

John: please report to Michigan to clean my monitor. I just spit pop all over it.

I miss Dan from an entertainment value. I have some excellent video of his riding and his various uses of the F bomb to motivate himself. I really wish I had a helmet cam running when he passed me at Mount Snow in 2002 when I was going about 40mph. He hit a dainage and went over the bars just when he was passing the guy 2 in front of me. I don't think he knew where he was but he was complaining that he couldn't find his bike. Then he proceeded to win the expert 25-29 I think. The he told us how awesome his run was.

He also appeared in Nitro Circus 2 DVD eating it in the yard sale. I wish I had the audio for it.

Liam Panozzo is still riding and racing over here. His family is a large part of the mob who are running the national round this weekend at Mt Beauty (his home town), no doubt he'll be on the podium. Insanely fast little bugger.

I've seen Bootes' name in some AU national results in the past year or so, riding for some local garage company frame.

my first encounter was when me and Herndon took a trip to Plattekill in 99 maybe? Anyway...we got there super early so we could get in a ton of riding. When the lights got low and the campfires came out...he latched onto us like a case of the clap! That was a classic weekend too. I met "BO", Holly, Hartlove, Whitsell, Recker, Dick Dan, lil Van Dine, Nobman, Lars, Seplavy, Weagle, John P...all at 1 race for the first time.

Oh..and I was overheard at the results saying "Hey Chris you beat that tall skinny ucker feh Kyle Ebbett" followed by..."Yeah..that would be me." At that moment I realized just how tall...

Just wanted to let you fools now wazzup from a reel mountain. were at this internet cafe and its packed with bizziotches . Me and mIni Dickan got heer yestaday erly and road for hours yo Totally sick corse. To bad you all r too scared to leave the flatlands Ahahahahah pozers

Anyways, we road with a bunch of pros and pretty much slayed it with em. These pu$$ys took out the yardsale, but me and MD road it anyways it was sick yo All thes people were worried about us cuz we were slay it so fcking sick. They were like "yo, you guys got no buziness ridin this section, ur gunna get hurt" and "get off the corse before you kill urselfs" And we were like, "whatever, we're rockin it, and tonight we'll be nailin' ur girlfrinds " It was totally sick We ended up sleepen in the back of MD's dropped S10, which was OK till it rained on us, but watever, we'll hookup with SkaTodd today and get a place to crash. Or thers a big chance that we'll hookup with some hoes and just crash with them. Thers an HUGE ruumer goin round that teh National Champ, Dan Dickan, will be hear on race day to take the title again. How sick yo He doesnt even need to practice once and he'll still domanate. Pretty much everyone is talkin about it, and wen we say that we know him they just cant belive it. Ok, were gunna hed to the mountain and kill it for another day. YOu guyz have fun ridin ur croscuntry bikes hahahshhaha.

YO YO pozers Wanted to give a quik update before we heded back to gayville Michigun. Anywayz, NORBA SUCKS Yestaday we went to mountain and practise and this skank hoe tryed to jack us 10 chips for parken. We sez "fck you skanky hoe " and parked on the street. Practised all day, with all the top proes, and we slayed it east coaster style We pretty much won practise, so we heded back to MiniDickans truck and it was gone So that skank hoe that tryed to jack us sez "I called the copz cuz you too are so rood, and you cant park on the street" So those fcking copz toed our truck By the time we found out were it was it was too late to get it, so we had no place to sleep. We tryed hookin up with SkaTodd at his pro tent, but there were all these pozers hangin' out, probly tryin to get his audiograph. We did talk to this Sam dood from Austraylia, but I think he waz just a pozer tryin to poach all of SkaTodds glory.

Anywaz, all the hoes on the mounten were just nasty and not werth hookin up with, so we just stayed in this internet cafe all night and surfed porn. In the morning we went and got MD's truck out then went to do our race runs. That skank hoe was still there in the parken lot so we had to pay the 10 bucks, all in loose change - yah, f you NORBAS But it gets worse. Both me an MiniDickan got jacked in our race runs. We both slayed it Reprezunt New Jerzy yo In my run I only got pased by three doods, so I'm thinken, "sweet, forth place yo " and MD only got passed by two doods, so he's thinken "sweet, third place yo " We totally podiamed But then the ruzults get posted and we were the last two on the list No f'ing way you NORBA biotches We went up to the top dood and said "hey, pencil neck, you totally screwed us and NORBA sucks " We even told him that we now the national champian, Dan Dickan, and he acted like he never herd of him. What a loozer, he must be from Michigan. I think they wanted to mess with us for payin the 10 chips in change to that skank hoe in the parkin lot. We are who we are, a cuple of bad a$$ east coast mofos, and we aint changin for nobody.

Were headin to Jerzy now to kick with our boyz old skool. Cant' wait to tell them about the flat jumps in Michigan and about the loozer that rides a wooden bike Peace out turds.

What about the kid that would come into the dinner table at the hotel restaurant in Kaprun, with flowers in hand, hand written love letters, framed photos of EC and come in CRYING looking for EC. Then EC would oblige him and come out to greet him, and the kid looked like he just met Jesus.

Bill and Alison. Conor is 16 now, all grown up and riding 20" bikes all over the place these days. His skills have improved by lightyears and he's is nothing like you all remember. over 6 feet tall, no longer pudgy, more polite than many people i know, sometimes has a full beard, is laid back and fairly quiet . . . pretty much the total opposite of his previous self.

this is from his bro's annual x-mas party, he's the redhead sitting behind me (no i'm not sitting on his lap, i'm on the arm of the couch. but yes i'm drunk and i have wine in my hair).

great kid, and probably the most generous family i know.

Conner is a rad dude now. When I first met him, he was maybe 12... came up to me and asked me an endless list of questions about my bike.

As Lee said, he is a straight up chiller now. He also kills it on a BMX bike, no footed cans, airing quarter pipes pretty high. Total 180 from his old self.

Definitely an east coast legend, haha... His parents are also some of the most genuine people I know, for sure.

I can't believe that kid Connor. I was one of the few people that would actually talk to him (and his mother). I remember at the begining of one season, as a joke, I asked the mother for a Dr Trimmer hat. Well, by about August, she showed up at one of the nationals with one. Also, Connor was one of the few people whom I explained my theories on goats and birds to...

We were at Snowshoe and heard some kid 3 tents down in the pits say "Do you have any FREE USED DOWNHILL TIRES?" about 85 decibels. You saw mechanics scatter.

What was really funny about was the stack of about 6-7 tires he had on his shoulder while asking. Then he keeps right on down the line at max volume with the same question. Finally, some mechanic says really loud where everybody can hear...."Ummm...yeah...come back around 5pm Sunday after the race."

After that it went like this:
"Do you have any FREE USED DOWNHILL TIRES?"
"Ummm...yeah...come back around 5pm Sunday after the race."

"Do you have any FREE USED DOWNHILL TIRES?"
"Ummm...yeah...come back around 5pm Sunday after the race."

Correct. He's racing the vet open class in moto now, and pretty much winning everything he enters.

That guy was always such a beast, whether he was riding that Avalanche/Cortina or that insane Avalanche/BMW. I remember getting passed by him in a really slow, tricky section at a Sunday River race one time, and although I went balls to the wall to try and follow his lines, he was out of sight after two turns. Super cool dude, though.

Chris Carleton always had the best interactions with Connor. I remember back in '03, around the time there was quite a debate raging between running 24 or 26" wheels on street/park bikes, and we were down in Snowshoe for the NCS race. As we were unloading the Bang Bus and setting up the tents on the first day, I saw Connor heading over to our pit. Knowing that he'd be asking me questions for the next 20 minutes, I went and hid in the back of the truck hoping he'd pass by. Of course, Carleton couldn't resist the temptation and lured him in. As Chris rolled his Imperial out of the back of the truck, I hear Connor say, "You liar, Chris! You did NOT put 29-inch wheels on your Evil!"

the funny part about that is back then, no one really even would have ever thought of putting 29ers on a mountain bike, I was just being a total jackass when I told him I put those wheels on my imp. This is among many of the totally screwed up things I told this kid. I believe one time him, his mother, and myself all had an in depth conversation about my philosophy on birds and goats.

Cavalierri - no clue
