I think diablo should make some more natural drops instead of all the wooden ones. And i also think there should be some more technical trails. but thats just my opinion.

I agree some of the older trails are so rocky you are sore even if you don't crash. Make them a bit smother and you will have riders use them more. I find riders use the 4 main trails and don't take advantage of the mountains diversity because of it.

i think diablo should give away popsicles on hot days, staff should ride your bike over the rough stuff and let you finish the rest of the trail, and have moms in minivans waiting to pick everyone up at the end of a hard day...

This is what's referred to as "downhilling" not being a whiney b!tch. Its a hard sport, get used to it. It takes a long time to build up enough skill to clean those trails. hell I've been doing it for about 3 years now and I STILL have trouble cleaning trails like Slayer and Utah. Its just very physically demanding. if you don't have the strength, hit the gym.

I go to Diablo because of the tough terrain... shoo, i love me some rock gardens..... Evil BOB, Stigmata, upper and lower ripper...

But i do like to dabble in Tempest, Waterboy, Victory, Alping, Upper breakout, Dominion Jump Likes, Flatliner, US OPEN BERMS.....

wait.... are those are non rock garden trails i just named.... there are quite a few more as well...

So Man up, or get a XC bike and wear Spandex and shut up!

I used to get so frustrated at big rock gardens like Slayer, Ripper & Utah when I first started riding DH, I would say "Rockgarden, why do you mock my lack of skill & out of shape physique?", but now that's my favorite type of terrain.

You're right man, take a weakness & make it a strength.

By the way, I agree with Dav... uh... Whoryder, Diablo should open in mid-late April & stay open until Thanksgiving, I need to ride!!!!!!!!

Natural drops like the drop on Ripper. It's not huge but fun as hell. The run in is a bit tricky and it has a little bit of a blind take off landing going on. Throwing in that drop in the middle of a trail like Ripper really makes me happy.

that wasn't the point I was trying to convey. In case you're still confused, what I meant was don't make a trail easier to match your riding abilities, make your abilities better in order to ride tougher trails. Step up to the plate and meet the challenge! Some people (myself included) happen to enjoy rock gardens more than other aspects of riding.

FWIW it is possible to ride those trails with good flow.

YA when I started MTBing, I found rocks really annoying. Now I love them. There is noting like blasting down a rockgarden. But, I do like fast flowly trails too. There was this trail I did in WV. It was on a XC trail but it was 3 miles of just a dirt DH trail. No rocks, drops,or jumps. I must of been going like 35 mph. It was amazing. But then I did a trail that was like 6 miles of climbing up a mountain and then a trail that was pretty much a rock garden the entire way down. It was challenging but really fun. I was on my hardrock and was still a begenier so I was kinda slow, but it was still fun.

So basically what the OP is saying is Diablo needs a JAH drop.

And I agree - rocks are the best part of Diablo. Some trails can be fixed up, but that usually means moving fallen trees and throwing fresh dirt and water bars where needed. Don't make anything easier, please. Thanks

How about a large spine/mound - about 25' tall mid mountain that you can drop out of the lift onto/into? Then there could be a row of 20'x60' doubles oing down the fireroad from there and there could be punji sticks and escaped Zoo tigers in between them and possibly some napalm or flame throwers.

What do you guys think?

We could also cage up one of the lift buckets and make PSP stay in it all day.

For a "resort" to display a sign like this is a true demonstration of lack of class. Many riders in this area patronize and enjoy both resorts (for good reason) and it is a slap to the face of the actual riding community, not our operation. Ironically, many of these "diablow" riders podium at their events on a regular basis. :busted:

Platte is a place where people ride.

Resort? Naw, yer missing the point.

It's a sign (and people call me sensitive!)

Not Gnarly? 1/2 the mountain are lines most riders will 'naah, no thanks' and take another route. Steep, Sketchy, Drops galore.

No sleeping on Diablo - the Gnar is in the speed - go down on some trails and yer done!! OVA!!!

WhoRyder

I personally rode both this year, spent more time @ Creek than Platty, but i did invest some time @ Platty this past season.

my take:

Maybe Plattekill should point their energy towards fixing their cheap ass lift (of whom my bike almost fell off of), and some of their trails.

In one of their trails there was a Chainsaw, yes a chain-****ing-saw in the trail, kidding me... as of Gnarly.... pls.... most of the trails there are full of loose rocks and not really that technical, which is fun, but i think that PARK is overrated and not worth the long trip to go there!

Diablo's only flaw is that it's a small mountain. but other than that, you have smooth trails, gnarly ****, drops, man made stuff, etc...

I will probably get flamed, cussed out, etc, but who cares what anything thinks, i rode diablo 28 times this season and hit up platty 8 times....

Hey guys... Lets not turn this into the tired Pkill vs. Diablo discussion. It has been well documented that many riders enjoy riding at both locations and each venue offers a unique experience. Some prefer Platte, some prefer Diablo, some ride both! Be thankful that there are options, the sport is progressing allowing more resorts to open while still allowing the existing resorts to survive and expand. There's no need to bash the few resorts that actually embrace the sport, when there are soo many that don't.

I'd love to see more resorts open their doors to the sport, especially a few closer to me, the 2 1/2 hour drive makes it pretty hard to get to platty or Diablo very often.

maybe this is why the black guy that works the lift has a scared look to him all the time, like if he says something wrong he might get lynched or something!

Delta... HA!

After these comments, I think they might lynch you if you ever tried to ride at Plattekill again Dave...

Dave?

Why are people thinking I'm Dave? WTF, my name is Steven!

But who cares anyway..... i doubt Dave will waste his gas money and go to Plattekill anymore... there is still have SnowShoe, Whiteface, MountSnow....

Also, it's 2008, Dave will have the right to protect himself... Crowbar, Knives, Bats, Brass Knuckles, i think Dave carries those in his car....

Belleayre, Bobcat, Brantling, Bristol, Byrncliff, Catamount, Cazenovia, Cockaigne, Dewey, Dry Hill, Four Season, Greek, Holliday Valley, Holimont, Hunt Hollow, Hunter, Kissing, Labrador, McCauley, Mt. Pisgah, Mt. Peter, Oceola, Peek N Peak (although this one sounds interestine for the gentleman looking to see 13 year olds), Pineridge, Royal Mt., Salmon, Sawmill, Windham, Snow Ridge, Song mt., Sterling Forrest, Swain, Thunder Ridge, Titus, Toggenburg, West Mountain, and Willard are a few ski resorts I don't believe are open to downhill mountainbiking. I'd love to see more resorts open their doors to the sport, especially a few closer to me, the 2 1/2 hour drive makes it pretty hard to get to platty or Diablo very often.

im soo happy that Thunder Ridge doesnt suport DH...that mountain is soo ****ty for snowboarding i doubt it would be anybetter if they made some DH trails! lol even if they did make DH trails, you'd have to watch out for the crazy paintballers, and even the Llamas and mountain goats(psp's favorite!)

I'm done, Diablo was right.... no need to get into a pkill vs. Diablo thread, it's boring and retarded...

Diablow Whiners/P'Kill Riders...
I laughed when i first saw it, and then thought to myself:

"the ones that are crying & whining is P'kill, Maybe they're upset because they don't get as much business as Diablo"

That Sign alone proves that. Shawn would never put such a sign at Diablo.

Diablo, your #1 Fan is P'kill. Be Proud!

dont forget, plattekill didnt abandon the sport like mt creek did before diablo took it over.
and i dont think lazlo needs a 911 Turbo to keep him happy either nor is anyone "crying and whining", but i guess you can tell that from a sign that is meant to be funny....no but wait, they made that sign because they arent getting as much business as diablo! you are so right! wow, when first saw that sign, i thought the same thing!
i guess you got your head so far up your ass you think diablo is the one and only mountain that should be around.

A jab at Shawn for no apparent reason.... What does his car have to do with it? Why are people envious of him for having a Porsche?

i guess you got your head so far up your ass you think diablo is the one and only mountain that should be around

Totally Disagree, my point of the matter is that you don't see SnowShoe with sign saying "P'kills lifts are 50 years old", or WhiteFace with Signs saying "at P'kill your bike will fall of the lift" or a sign @ Diablo saying "not going anywhere in a while, have a Snickers on P'kills lift, it'll be a while"

You never explained:

Why are you people so jealous of Shawn's Porsche? you are one of the envious, right?

Did Shawn deny you a ride in the passenger seat of his 911 Turbo... i bet you know the color too! You probably have been taking pictures of his car and have them set up as your desktop wallpaper... c'mon admit to us....

Diablo is to the east coast bike scene what Mountain creek is to the east coast snowboard scene. It knocks all these bigger local mountains out of the box, not with altitude, not with amazing conditions, just alot of fun sh!t designed to push you to your limits. No park in the local NYNJCT area has what MC has and likewise no local mountains offer "mountain biking" the way that diablo approaches it.

I do love going to plattekill, that place is awesome. Lazlo is doing what he does and the guys at diablo do what they do.

mmmm turbo. that is one sexy beast. I'm jealous, that is the ultimate personal race car. I wouldn't mine taking a run at his turbo, just to see how bad i would lose. I wonder how much room he could put between us in the twistys...

what year is his car? does he know how to actually drive it?

my old boss had an '04 turbo with the x50 in it, and drove it like....an old man.

those who complain or mock the other resorts should be banned to florida for a couple of years, you spoiled little sh!ts. go ride that crap for a year or two and maybe you will apprieciate what you have.

this has gotten kinda off the subject in the last few posts, but you can never have too much power on the streets or tracks, As long as you know how to drive, you can use it. A porsche would be a nice change in pace, I haven't driven one in a while.. Can't hate him for having a nice car now can we?
