I just bought a Planet bike white strobe and use my bright red flasher on the back of my helmet. I use these to be seen rather than to see. :)

They are cheap so its not a hassle when they are lost or stolen.

Second the Planet Bike lights. Got 'em on my commuter. They are a "be seen" light for sure, you'll need something more if you want to see where you're going...

I use Sigma lights....they are for seeing, not just being seen. I've been happy with them, I think I paid $140 for two lights, two batteries, mount and a taillight

This is a good comparo of some of the common lights. I think I am gonna get a Light and Motion Halogen setup. I am not baller enough for the HIDs, I could buy a killer set of wheels used for that kinda money.

I don't care about front lights as I'm always paying attention ahead of me. So I have some 10w lamp that is satisfactory.

I had a cateye and something else on the rear, one solid, one flashing. Those two did not compare to the Dinotte Taillight. That is as (maybe a little more) bright as a motorcycle taillight.

I would encourage you to look into it.

I have to say, Opie's got a nice looking tail... light. Running errands downtown after dark has reminded me how important it is to be seen from behind.

Other than that, I've been thinking about building up a set of crazy bright (think close to HID) LEDs based on plans from teh internet. (http://myfwyc.org/Timberlake/CreeLEDLight?page=4)

I've got a Light and Motion Solo Logic MV. It's absolutely amazing, small, weatherproof, extremely bright, and has 3 power settings. Light and Motion make really good stuff.

This would be pretty cool for commuting. 7 hours of runtime.

I usually use my HID, but I will also use my Trail Rat ( 10w Halogen) , but I have also HAd occasion where I use a Small Luxeon Based LED homemade light. But I also Use my Hardtail Mt bike when I know I'm going to be doing my Ride in the dark. because no matter the light , I still can't pick up the Pot holes fast enough.

I must leave in a better place, pot holes are a non issue for commuters around here. :)

I am thinking of a Trail Tech ATV HID light, and a custom battery in the near future. 500lumens, and $114 on ebay, it seems like an awesome deal. They even make a 1200 lumen version for like $30 more, but at the cost of more current draw.
