well like i said this is for my trail bike not and FR bike. looking for a fork for it. need to have atleast 140mm of travel due to the design on the but but not over 160mm. it needs to be fairly light (would really like to keep the fork under 5 lbs).
the riding style. its going to be ridden for all type of trail but mainly the rougher ones as i already have an xc bike. its going to have to go through alot of climbing (pedaling platform is nice) and descending (inertia values are gay) though i will keep the descending on the more tame side. the trails are pretty rocky and rooty so tracking is important.
also it would be nice to have it be QR
thing i have looked into
2008 minute 140mm (kinda that top candidate)
2008 fox float rc (hows the pedaling)
2008 55 (not to hot on this one, but how the QR 20mm?)
2007-8 Pike dual air (i have had this in the past and know its good)
2008 marz 600 or 700 are they even up to the duty
am i missing anything? also what is your opinion. keep in mind i hit the 260 lbs with gear.
Rockshox lyric air or two step climbs great with QR and i'm also in that weight it fing kills 160mm travel

yeah i have also looked at that one. the only real concern with the lyric is that the axle to crown is a little tall. though i guess i could solve that by using that spacer in the air chamber.
i guess i should say that i would like a traditional QR but if i do get a 20mm it has to be a QR type.

Well, they are expensive but the new Fox 36's come with QR style release and seem to fit within your parameters..

If you've got the cash, get a Fox Float. You'll dig it.

yeah i guess i should mention the bike that it is going on. its a 2005 giant reign. i got it brand new, minus fork, for a killer deal. the headtube angle is 69.5 degree with a 145mm fork (nixon) and i could live with it being a little slacker but not too much. i know that a fox36 in the 160mm setting kills the handling of the bike (i friend of mine had that setup). that is my worry about the 55 and the lyric, though i could shorten the lyric.
i wouldn't say that money is not an issue but i know i cost to get a good fork these days
if you need anymore info just post.

I have an 05 Minute 3 and while l like the way it soaks up the hits it flexes a LOT. I've talked to other riders who run a Min 3 and they don't seem to have problems with flex. I'm 230lbs so maybe that makes a difference? So if I'm going straight on things work great, but bouncing over roots and rocks while turning and braking leaves me with an uneasy feeling.

i guess i should also add the nixon to the mix as well

Check out 1soulridr's post over on MTBR about the 55. He is pretty stoked because the AC height is low...so it would really help in your case.

My buddy has a reign I think a 07 maybe 06 I forget but all he talks to me about is how he loves the 55 ATA, and the new QR 20mm is trick I saw it when he first put it on, he had it like the first week they came out anyway it felt nice I rode it a local park here called Waywayanda some nice trails, it felt so good I wanted to throw it on my FSR XC but way to much fork, but I had a Pike on my Preston at the time and I was debating the 55 but I went with the 66 which is to much for you travel wise. Really I would look at the 55..

From riding one for a year, the pike sounds like a great fork for what you're looking for. I loved mine, especially the maxle.

its kinda funny that you said that. i just picked up a fox talas RLC for next to nothing at my shop. it went on a massive clearance and i just could not refuse.
thanks for all of the advise that i got from people though this thread and through the PMs. i hope that this thread will also be help fully to other people. i will post the bike when i get it all together. should end up being a sweet trail rig.

The world got a little colder when you said your first choice was a minute. I have no idea why anyone would choose that unless they were keeping their bike as light as humanly possible. Go with a 55 or a fox 36. I'm yet to hear negative on any of the 55's. I am going with a 55 ata mid summer and i've been on the eta and r. The bike i'm looking comes stock with a tst2. I think you'll be more than happy with one. Fox 36 is also good, depending on what kinda riding and how much cash you have will decide which one you'll get.

well ok since this thread has been resurrected from the dead. i have since taken the fox off the bike due to NO small bump compliance, i have since put a lyric solo air. that fork kicks ass.
also unskilled i have hear many bad things about the 55 (and all other qr 20) axle system. also i have seen it in person now and i'm so glad i didn't get one. you have no choice where the lever ends up and there really is nothing keeping it in it seems like. i have heard of more than more developing play in it as well

Gotta agree with you on the Lyrik Solo Air. My first air fork and I really like it. It is not even dialed in yet and it already feels as good as the old one did at its best.
