Smutok/Highlands Growing the Sport Example

Not sure who notices how much I b1tch about pros not giving back to the sport.

Well Smutok is an example of a pro who seems to have partnered up with some guys and Highlands to create a super bike park for all levels. Cool pump track, playground for dirt jumpers and trails for downhillers. Why didn't pros of the '90's use their name and influence to do this 10 years ago!!!!

I love Smutok, he's a good egg. The funniest part was when he would get distracted during the interview, but I didn't have the heart to make him do it over again. :p

Great video. For those of you who've never been to Highland, you should definitely check it out. It's a small place, but their attention to detail is ridiculous, and the trails are CRAZY fun. I can't think of another park in north america that has bigger drops (with perfect landings) or better jumps.

I watched it again and didn't see any table tops or mini-sets? I can jump 40 footers on my DH bike buy I can't go two feet on a set of lip to lips. I'd get about 5 minutes of riding in there. :D

They actually have a set of mini table tops right in the midst of all the big jumps. There is also a smaller set of jumps in the woods not shown in the video. They are doubles, but small(er) doubles. The pump track is also a great place for jumping......despite being UBER tiring!

There's also a really nice pump track which they don't show much in that video and two completely different sets of dirt jumps other than what's shown . . . not to mention 5 or 6 really good DH runs with stunts ranging from 1-foot drops to huge step downs (and everything in between).

The sheer amount of stunts, obstacles, jumps, wall rides, drops, and berms is mind boggling, especially considering it's such a small mountain.

Its your imagination, there are less intimidating, more moderate lines as well. They just put in a new intermediate set with moderate gaps and a big wall at the end about a month ago. I will say the park is geared toward the intermediate to advanced rider but they will have more true begginer stuff in the future from what i hear.

That entire mountain is rockin'. You can really tell the owners thought every little detail through and through both on the trails and in the lodge. It's defineitely a place to add to your checklist if you live in the NE.

anyone who lives in america should come check out highland, very very fun, and as mentioned, they are working HARD to improve the mtn all the time. Infact, I was up that last week with smutok/dh productions as some filming for a new release...you will see some nice highland footage:pirate2:
