View Full Version : Putting an 80m Sherman Jumper on a Transition Vagrant

Although it's not perfectly designed for dirt jumping, I am throwing a 80m Fork on my Vagrant. I am running a Sherman Breakout (set to 130m) The Vagrant has a 67 degree headtube angle. I am not one for math, so does anyone have an idea on how much will this change my headtube geo, etc?

can't help you with your question but where did you find a 80mm sherman? I've been looking for one for months..

What kind of a hole? A black hole, those things are deadly.

not really if u are the person falling into a black hole u dont feel anything. You just simply cease to exsit in a single moment, then all of ur memories and genetic makeup are smeared on the outter ring of the black hole, like a record. Now if ur watching someone falling into a black hole yea it looks gruesome. You can thank steven hawking for that gem of information :twitch:

I don't think the head angle is what should be in question here.... more like worrying about how low your bb height will become, and the scrapage on your peds. I would not do it.

Bike Satori. My BB height is 13" right now. So you think it'll drop too much or you're not sure? Transition was asked this same question and they have been slow on a response. Maybe they're recovering from interbike?

I have my Vagrant set up with a DJ 2 dropped to 80mm and it works just fine for me. No pedal scrapage and it feels pretty good I think... But there is a decent change in the head angle from larger fork.

That's good input dude. I am feeling like my front end is floating up too much on tight jumps and/or spines. I am thinking that this fork is going to make a big positive difference on how my bike rides in tighter sections. Thanks for all the input guys.

:imstupid: on this...when we are talking about black holes head angles seem like a silly thing to bring up...

my bad....
with what fork A-C is this 13" bb height based upon? You might be able to get away with it if your bb doesn't drop below say, ~12... I was imagining that it would drop way below, closer to -11 or so, but I could easily be wrong.
but still, you've got a looooong wheelbase with that frame, not ideal for much of anything but high speed or hairy chucks.

On Transition"s site it shows a Manitou Single w/150mm on the high end, it comes low end with a Marz Drop off 2, which I think is stock at 130mm. Either way, I just got a note from Neil @ Transition and he said Kyle is running the Vagrant w/a 100mm fork and is stoked. I know there is better frames for Dirt Jumping out there, but this is what I'm trying to make work right now. Changing a frame and fork will be the least of my worries after all my recent upgrades to that bike.

seems really odd you would drop a frame that is identical geo to the dirtbag so low. oh well, if it rides it's purpose...good on you.

It's about an " / * . 130mm=67*, so about 2 inches lower will be about 80mm=69*.

the Vagrant is a 67HA with a 130mm Z1 (518mm a-c) so if the sherman crown is similar to the z1 crown you lose about 50mm of axle-crown height. 50mm = 2 inches and I read that 1" usually works out to 1 degree HA change.

so a 69 degree head angle. I dunno what the BB would be

tell us how it works out . . . someday I want to slam my Vagrant's Z1 down to 60mm. I cannot ride street for **** but it would be a fun project and the low BB sounds fun :p

edit - this is all for the 06 geo:

Jumper 80mm is 455mm A-C. so you'll be losing closer to over 60mm of height.

low bb + looong chainstays and wheelbase = sucks big time.
As cool as a 60mm slammed Z1 is, it might suck even on a TOP a little bit. Few frames out there can actually take a slammed fork or rigid (anything ~420 - 440a-c) and still ride optimally.

I can't say much as I've never ridden a Vagrant, but there was just recently a thread from a guy on another forum who just made a jump from a Vagrant frame to a Chameleon and how much of a difference he noticed in how easy the front end came up... and the chameleon is still a rather conservative frame as well...

Haha. My chameleon was 68.5* with a 100mm dirt jumper.

anyone know of a frame with shorter than vagrant stays (16.5") but still has a slack HA?

also, how much does changing axle-crown height affect wheelbase?

didnt know about that frame, cool. For reference if this page comes up in anybody's search, the bitc h has a half-degree slacker head angle, a shorter chainstay and a taller bottom bracket, compared to the vagrant. Also the b itch is a pretty small frame (as far as I could tell it only comes in one size)

Yeah if you were buying something from Eric I wouldn't trust him at all. I finally recieved the frame (after 3 weeks of a fast payment) and it had curse words written all over then inside box

Take some pictoral proof and back up one of your many unfounded statements.

Unfounded? I would love to post up my receipt of payment sent and the actual delivery to my house...along with the box itself however this was "done" with and when i recieved the product although you continue to make yourself look bad so whatever. I don't think the mods would like me to post up a picture with what some *could* say are racist remarks wrote on it.

I don't know about you but I don't keep trash around my house, the box went out with the rest of the RECYCLing :thumb: goods. If anyone would like to know what it said or the receipt of my paypal transactions let me know. I've got wayyyyyyyyy more people willing to back up my buying/selling :clapping:

I had a sc roscoe set up with 24s and a 100mm sherman, WAY low bb, and that bike is made for a small fork. I wouldn't go below 100mm if I were you.
