View Full Version : Ridley Supercross?
I found a guy locally who's selling one of these.
105 9spd kit.
FSA cranks and wheels
He want slike $1050 for it.
I checked out Ridley's site and didn't see it with a 105 kit (had Ultegra for this year) But no price.
Its in good shape, a year old. But its been raced and crashed.
I tried it out and fits, its light, accelerates like champ.
I'm pretty tempted, just really unfamiliar with the brand.
Any thoughts?
I believe Ridley makes pretty kickass CX bikes. Like really really kickass ones don't they?

Never ridden one, but Ridley has a very good reputation in cross and now in road as well. Big on the Euro scene for sure. Obviously depends on the amount of wear on it, but seems like a good deal. The retail for the frame is over that amount by a few hundred. If you want something unique, I can't imagine there are that many out there.

Personally, I would not buy a used cross bike. They go through so much abuse depending on who has ridden it. Ridley is a very good brand though and like JRogers said, they are huge on the euro cross scene.
I'd think it through. There are a bunch of good cross bikes out there for under $1000 new.
lets be clear on this, I'm in CA and this bike has probably never seen a wet ride. Its in good shape.
I test rode it right after one of the mechanics had gone through it at the shop. He didn't find anything I'd be concerned with. He did not like the FSA wheelset though. It require removing the tire and tube to true the wheels and a special spoke wrench.
Its good to hear Ridley has a good rep. I'd never really heard of them before. I checked out their site and they have a road bike named after me (Noah) kinda funny ;)

Jump on it then. Sounds like a pretty good deal at $1050. Runs about $4200 w/ Ultegra SL.

No, no, no, no, no!
1. Used race CX bikes, no bueno.
2. I sent you a PM with some info I'd rather not post up here on a public site, but it might change your perceptions...
3. Colnago is coming out with 2 new CX bikes, a 105 model and an Ultegra...

What wheels?
And also, a good rep on the racing circuit doesn't always mean it's the best bike for a consumer. Those guys go through lots of frames...

I think you're being a bit hasty...This guy could have been a serious contender for national points all last season, or a hack who raced B or C for three races.

:stupid: God knows my cross bike is trashed from racing

I'm just saying that just because Ridley has some good riders on their bikes, doesn't make them the best bikes. Those guys would be fast on whatever they were on.
Noah won't be racing on the bike, I'm surprised he's even looking at a bike with wheels that skinny!

I'm kind of the opposite opinion. If you can find a servicable used CX bike, why not get it since it's just going to get abused anyway? I just bought a used Ridley Crosswind. First race is tonight, I'll follow up with my impressions of the bike.
I'm pulling the trigger on this bike.
Its too good a deal not to.

Used is one thing, used as a race bike is another, but I'm all for Noah finally getting a CX bike.
Let us know your thoughts on the race...

AH i'm calling BS! you actually 'ride' bikes? RACE? right!
Hey how'd it go? I bought a $250 scattante frame and swapped over all the components i could from my road bike. I didn’t get a chance to do any real highend training before a local renegade series started but I’m enjoying it. I’ve managed 2-3rds and I pulled off a win last week. Unfortunately yesterday while mtbing I hit my knee on the handlebars and it’s swollen this morning. Like a lot. It’s a bad situation for me because I talked so much trash after winning Wednesday I’ve got a boatload of people gunning for me. Hopefully icing and ibuprophen will heal it up. I’m going to get STUFFed this week. Apparently people are offended when you say
Toninator - “Man my right leg is REALLY SORE”
Losers – “really what from Toninator”
Toninator – “from kicking so much a$$ last night”
Not popular.
Zark since you’ve already done it, it probably doesn’t matter but the Riddley is almost the cyclocross standard. I don’t know about the prices though.
I wussed out. The guy is a former semi pro DH'r who bunny hops barriers. Thats too trashed for my tastes.

Hey how'd it go?
This race was pretty bad. I unkowingly lined up with the third wave racers at the start when I should have been in wave two. When wave two started I was left standing in the middle of a bunch of wave 3 guys. When I got going I tried to do some stupid fast passing and crashed on the first corner. ****ty start! Then later in the race, Pro-racer Carl Decker was passing me and he did a stupid pass, crashed, and took me out with him. I was done at that point but I managed to finish.
The bike was good with one exception - the fork shakes pretty badly under braking. I'm not sure if the carbon fork is just too light for cantilevers or if something else is wrong there.

A lot of carbon forks do that, my Easton does too. You can help it out somewhat by messing with the toe-in on your front brakes. The only fork I've seen that doesn't have any chatter is the one that comes on the Colnago C50 Cross frames. Super beefy, they have built-in stiffening ribs. The only problem is that it's an $800 or so fork...

You should have bunny hopped him, or on top of him.
