No homos...?! (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20942057)
'We don't have homosexuals'
Asked about executions of homosexuals in Iran, Ahmadinejad said the judiciary system executed violent criminals and high-level drug dealers, comparing them to microbes eliminated through medical treatment. Pressed specifically about punishment of homosexuals, he said: “In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country.”
With the audience laughing derisively, he continued: “In Iran we do not have this phenomenon. I don’t know who’s told you that we have this.”
Riiiiiiiiight.....and your hardline religious stance is sooooo welcoming.

What's so hard to believe.
The guy does live in gawd's country.
We only gottem here cuz we do sinful things like teach math to women.
On Capitol Hill, conservatives said Columbia should not have invited Ahmadinejad to speak. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said “there is a world of difference between not preventing Ahmadinejad from speaking and handing a megalomaniac a megaphone and a stage to use it.”
Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., said he thought Columbia’s invitation to Ahmadinejad was a mistake “because he comes literally with blood on his hands.”
Idiots. If ever there was proof that freedom of speech and argument in a public forum exposes hate for what it is, it would be this talk, and you have no further to look than the comments on homosexuals quoted above.
Letting Ahmadinejad set the terms for when and how he speaks protects him. Putting him in a public forum for live debate makes him look a fool.
edit: freedom of speAK?
I like the blood on his hands remark....and the U.S. doesn't have any blood on its hands?? Man do we view things one sided
is there no homo's in Iran cuz the gov killed them all???

I can't believe how many comments I've read in the US press and from congress about how he shouldn't have been allowed to speak. HELLO? 1) You're the frickin' US of freedom lovin' A (supposedly) and 2) HELLO?

That's the simple and realistic answer.
Kill most, the rest hide... therefore, no homos.

I think those insisting that he not be allowed to speak are the real morons. Think about it, what is better than having that nutcase stand on global television, at a United States University and letting him speak? NOTHING!!
I mean, that speech could have been written by a GOP speech writer! It was perfect in its absurdity and creation of revulsion towards the policies of Iran! It proved all the points of the people who didn't want him to speak. What is their beef?
The guy proved to the world, AGAIN, what a screwball he really is. Much more effectively than any conservative or Jewish Lobby group could have done. I’d put him on the circuit!

Maury: Mahmoud, tell me about the gay scene in Iran.
Mahmoud: Gay scene? What gay scene? There are no homosexuals in Iran...
Maury: I've got a surprise for you, Mahmoud...backstage we have someone claiming to be a bonafide Persian homo. Can you believe that? Everybody welcome...Kiiiing Xerxes!

it's their freedom of press and speech to voice their opinion too, you know. Should they be silenced because you don't like America?
look, the Holocaust-denying Iranian president went to NYC. It's like the American Nazi Party goes to Long Island. People will be pissed off. Or do you want to suppress people's right to certain emotions too?
Wait, why is that you have problems when America say negative things about an open anti-semitic and homophobe? I guess American media can't even condemn intolerance anymore without offending someone. the irony.

Did I even begin to suggest they should have their freedom of speech removed? No. I said they are frickin' idiots for suggesting that Ahmadinejad should not be allowed to speak.
You are attacking me for something I didn't say, suggesting that I am against freedom of speech for these idiots, who themselves are saying Ahmadinejad should not have been offered freedom of speech whilst he was in the US. Are you retarded?

hey, you are the one that was foaming at the mouthing at the American press for not wanting him to speak.
your comments can certainly be very appropriate for yourself when viewed from a different angle.
Freedom of speech says that no matter how much you don't like what they say, they have the right to say it. One may not agree with them but the said parties still have the right to say it. That's the point.
Of course, your condescending comments represents New Zealand with pure grace. Good job.

They were saying he should not have the right to freedom of speech... Do you understand that?
I didn't say they shouldn't have the right to say it... Do you understand that?
I said: These people are stupid, as Americans, and more than that, as representatives of America who will be seen on the world stage by millions of people to suggest that he should not have the right to free speech. Do you understand that?
Do you understand why prominent American Senators and members of the press saying that in America, where you have free speech, Ahmadinejad should not be allowed to speak, is stupid?

Heh, Chang... this one may take awhile.
I'll try, nice and S L O W L Y: Changleen supports both sides to free speech (duh), because it allows hate mongers like Ahmadinejad to be exposed for the extremist lunatics they are. For the media to suppress him would be counterproductive, because it makes the media look like censor-happy 'fraidy-cats of Ahmadinejad's powerful words, when if they just let him speak the media proves their ideals and Ahmadinejad proves his insanity.
So the media is completely right to point out his hate and hypocrisy, but completely wrong to try to suppress his speech.
Make sense?
edit: damn Chang beat me to it.

Seriously. 3 mins.
Rep. Duncan Hunter, a California Republican also running for president, harshly attacked the university at a recent press conference.
"If President Lee Bollinger follows through with this hosting of the leader of Iran, I will move in Congress to cut off every single type of federal funding to Columbia University," he said.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican, also objected to Ahmadinejad's visit. "Instead of inviting him to speak at the United Nations and Columbia University, I believe he should be indicted under the Genocide Convention," the candidate said in a statement. For what act of Genocide would that actually be Romney? Killing 200,000 Iraqis? Oh no wait, that was you. lol I forgot for a minute.
On Thursday, Thompson said he would not have allowed Ahmadinejad into the country if he were president.
Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who is also running for the Republican nomination, spoke to a reporter today in Portland, Maine, about the Iranian president's visit.
"I think Columbia made the really wrong decision to invite him to be part of a distinguished lecture series," he said. "It makes no sense to give him this type of forum, to give him this type of dignity that Columbia has given him by allowing him to speak there, as if has some kind of serious opinion to offer." Yeah, He's only like a president or something. Everyone knows those guys don't know sh1t.
Also slightly retarded:
Thousands turned out, including some family members of Sept. 11 victims, outraged that Ahmadinejad had requested to lay a wreath at Ground Zero.I know how difficult it must be to keep track of all those weird-name countries where brown people live and what they get up to.

Anyway, back on topic. This is from the AP's "Reality Check!" article which was clearly a wholly unbiased, serious attempt at unskewed factual reportage.
About Homosexuals
AHMADINEJAD: "In Iran, we don't have homosexuals, like in your country. We don't have that in our country. In Iran, we do not have this phenomenon. I don't know who's told you that we have it."
REALITY CHECK:(Boo yah! :D) Mahmoud Asgari, 16, and Ayaz Marhoni, 18, were hanged publicly in 1995 in the city of Mashhad on charges of raping younger boys. They said before their executions that they were not aware that homosexual acts were punishable by death. In 2003, a 16-year-old girl said to be suffering from a psychological disorder was executed in Neka, a town in northern Iran, on charges of having an illegal sexual relationship.Like the guy said. They don't got no southpaws now.
