This should be interesting. I am curious as to what he will say at Colombia.

Indeed. He'll probably do what he normally does and 'sympathise' with the American people about all the problems in US society.

I bet it goes down like the press conference in Mars Attacks.

"AG AG!! AG AG AG!!" AG AG AG AG-AG AG!!"

Dude's a loony, but I don't think US foreign policy should be conducted on a 4-th grade level...get beyond the holocaust-denying person in front and look at dealing with the country as a whole, on the long-term. Hopefully, some other countries can (and many have) dealt with the US as a whole, and not exclusively with the man in front.

I absolutely agree. That is why I am curious as to what he says. Let the man speak.

I also agree that it is a two-way street as well. People who simply attack the head of state (The US comes to mind), seem to be focused on one ant in an ant colony. There is a lot more to a country than one person.

Well said MikeD

Technically, he's not actually 'in front'...

What, you mean in relation to the prime minister? Or the ayatollah?

In relation to actual governance of Iran, probably.

I had read that majority of the young people are pro-american in Iran, and the population is close to half under 25. If we don't do something stupid, like attack them, in time the country to become a friend. I hate the way we deal with countries like this, lots of hard talk. Use Libya as an example, countries can be reformed and brought back to the international community.

MikeD

Libya might not want to be the example you use if you're hoping to not bomb someone...

I can remember when the mad colonel was Bin Laden, Ahmedinnerjacket and Dear Leader all rolled into one. I guess his transformation over recent times is good news.

I was making the point that despite supporting terrorists, we were able to get Kudafi (sp?) to reform. The country has no sanctions on it now and he is still in power. He paid large sums to each family that lost someone in Lockerbe deal. If we strike Iran, I suspect it will be like 9/11 here, unite the country...against us

Well, it appears a good bombing set him straight, now doesn't it?

Didn't know if that's the precedent we wanted to reference in this case.

My hope is that when he sees some of the NY women in skirts and lowcut tops that he kind of starts to come around to the western way of thinking. Breasts > Burkas.

Thing is, I doubt very much that Reagan's bombing his daughter 21 years ago was the catalyst for Libyan reform which has occured only in the last 3-4 years.:clue:

I'm sure that sublety will be distinctly highlighted by those who might want to bomb Iran.

Absolutely no doubt that he'll be parroting the DNC's party platform... you know the usual America sux, get out of Iraq, free the prisoners at Club Gitmo, stop eavesdropping on people calling terrorists, America's military is a bunch of jack-booted thugs killing innocent people, quit supporting Isreal...

Me thinks he's fishing for a keynote speakers spot for the DNC Convention.

I retract my statement about Libya now that I think about it. The International community succeeded in turning Libya around by isolating it and basically starving the country out. That won’t happen with Iran because we need their oil and Russia and China won’t cut ties with them. Hell, lets just drop a nuke

"I think Mr. Bush, if he wants his party to win the next election, there are cheaper ways to go about this. I can very well give him a few ideas so that the people vote for him. He should respect the American people. They should not bug the telephone conversations of their citizens," the president said. "They should not kill the sons and daughters of the American nation. They should not squander the taxpayers' money and give them to weapons companies. And also help the people, the victims of Katrina. People will vote for them if they do these things. What I'm saying, I am being very sincere here. I'm a Muslim. I cannot tell a lie."

Says the dude who now regularly posts in txtmsgteenagegurlese.

I heard bits and pieces of it on the radio today. Whilst I respect that he's a bonafide nutcase, his introduction by Bollinger was...unnecessary. I know that it was likely thrown in to placate the "ZOMG FURANGIAN PRESIDENT HERE?!" idiots, but he's good enough at making a giant ass of himself while speaking publicly (sounds like someone familiar) to warrant something that more or less demeans the host nation to his petty level, and the media is usually good enough at demonizing him anyway.

"dictator". lol.

MarinR00
09-24-2007, 10:26 PM
I agree. While I am in no way defending Iran or its leadership, the fact that Colombia invites him to speech and then used the introduction by Bollinger to degrade and insult the person they asked to speak, seems kind of low, hypocritical and a bit like entrapment. It seems that even with a country like IRAN we still can’t figure out how to take the moral high-road.

Is Ahmaninejad a nut case? Yep. Is he a bad person? Seems like it. Does he affect Americans in negative ways? Come over to Baghdad and I’ll show you. But we seemed to lower ourselves to his level.

Simply letting him speak his mind about the Holocaust, 9-11 (he has a lot of supporters on this site! “think who is truly responsible”), gays, women, execution of minors, Israel, etc, was enough to show the world who this guys really is. Even France is coming around to see that.

But in my personal, not academic opinion, the guy can rot in hell.

i listened to segments of it on the NBC news podcast/videocast. his "palestinian question" reply to the loaded "israeli state" question was quite appropriate.

Yeah I thought the 'content' part of the speech (essentially the middle where he wasn't going on about god) was pretty good.

Just finished watching 60 minutes and besides that the guy is no actor with nervous smiles that looks like efforts to look relaxed, I think he spoke quite well most of the time. The comparisons that he kept doing and all the reminders of that the American people to a large exstent disagrees with the administration were healthy as the reporter wanted to make it sound like you're all behind the government and on the war path against Iran.

Funny how CBS's short comments on every episode (before you clicked on it) somtimes gave another meaning to what he said in that episode.

...and why did the reporter want to make it out as the American people was against him watching the Ground Zero site like it was Iran that was to blame for that?
