Yup thats were most BMX hubs are headed these days , it's a version of the original Mavic crossmaxx hub . for some reason BMX guys REALLY like this design , I know of 2 other companies not mentioned in that article that are working on similar designs also .

but I recall that Tree mentioned somewhere they gave props to using an old school mtb hub as inspiration for their new proto hub of a similar design to that.... don't know which one it was though.

The version Mavic hub that look similer to the Simple hubs are the 1996 version of the Mavic Crosmax front hub

i can't wait to see tree's new hubs and fly's. also animal has a removable flange hub coming out. i dont know why its removable other than to swap colors...maybe to replace after grind damage?

Some mavic road hubs are still like that I believe. What about canecreek, with the nips in the middle... underneath a grind plate or something. might be cool, but nowhere as smooth looking as these.

CreeP, are you talking about wooden spoked wagon wheels? I think it was too hard for Tree to grow a specific pattern of knots at binding intersections to built a proper 3X wheel at that time.

i like my radial front, you just have to to give your spoke a little more at......tention.

oh, I just now realized that the Simple BMX hub IS actually the Eject Option. didn't know they merged projects, but that's cool, wider distro.

I think the Simple/Eject looks way nicer than the KHE astral, which looks cheaper compared to the speed holed, crisper cnc'ed, tricker looking Simple... axle bolts are nicer too.

Apparantly the Eject can ONLY be laced 4X as it's the only way the spoke elbows will properly seat in the hub.

the eject hub site is down now but i remember reading that any 14g spoke can be used. 4x lacing only.

btw, those mavics are only similar because the spoke goes through radially. that isn't really equivalent. Shimano did a much closer design a while back.
