for some reason I got nothin' on any of the proxies I tried. tried connecting to everything I could find for 2 hours and finally gave up.

had the same problem while following all the directions given by various people here, then realized i still had the "auto-detect proxy settings" box checked as well. fixed that and was good to go:banana:

curious what the crowds reaction was to Barel's finish...were they pulling for him or are they largely a pro- Sam Hill crowd?

I really enjoyed watching live downhill on a big screen tv for a change. Best moment for me was Hill being in attack mode and the camera catching him tearing up one of the berms - He didn't even use the berm! Watching Fabien at the split was nail biting stuff.
Imo fort bill is all about the top half of the track. The bottom is all fast stuff anyway, so it's hard to milk any more time out of it.
I thought the dude that crashed and ended up finishing his run with his arse on display was classic!

Strobel with in 20th with a crash.. not bad.

Without the crash he would have been top 15.

Sunn did it 2 times at most, 1998 for sure and maybe '97 if Pascal won Jr. that year.

maybe another year if you add xc and miguel martinez to the equation, but that's a different sport altogether.

0.64 I think (it's on here somewhere). Really close. I expected Hill to win, but I am very impressed with Barel. He always turns it up for Worlds, but with the injury and all his run must have been pretty amazing. I did not think anyone would get that close to Hill.

Congrats to Sam and Sabo!

Yeah - a lot of people forget just how fast Barel is... didn't he injure himself last year too? Wasn't it some kind of really bad road rash he got freeriding at Whistler - needed some stitches and was out for a race or 2?

I'm pretty sure he beat Sam at one race last year... was it in NZ??? Can't remember.

When Barel is healthy, and "on" he can definitely give Sam a run for his money.

Sooo I waded through every single page and just had some questions:

1. What happened to Beneke?
2. What hell happened to Kovarik?
3. Sam Hill showing giddy excitement and jumping up and down??? I'll believe it when I see it. (way to go Sammy!)
4. Cedric's wrist - what did he break? Was it something major?
5. Ass-less skin suits - a new trend for 08', or just a fashoin statement for 07'?

Just wonderin'....

I don't know if you were watching but did you see his line through that rock section they kept showing most of the riders go through? It was like he used the rocks as a dirt jump transfer effectively doubling up sections, transferring from the riders left line to the right and getting backside on the exit, accelerating out. Amazing. I wish I could see it again. I have renewed respect for that fast frog!

Sam had a crazy ninja line through there too, but the camera didn't really catch it. you can see it at the beginning of the footage from the helicopter. those 2 guys came out of there with more speed than anyone by far.

j/k

ok, well i am bummed that i have missed it all.. would have been a blast to see. i'm sure it'll all be on youtube soon enough :D can't wait to see some pics from it as well!

man, Kovarik is just in limbo or something... he's been having a hell o a time getting back on top. whether it be crashes, mechanical or any kind of bad luck. After his injury i thought it would have taken a year or 2 to be a contender again... granted he did have a few good results & a world cup win at MSA in 06.. but man, i feel for the guy

would have been nice to see CG racin... he's ALWAYS done well at Ft Bill.

stoked to see little tracey hannah on the podium! i tell ya, that girl is gonna take over the women's scene sooner than i originally though!

kinda disappointed at the lack of coverage... even last year there were sooo many more places to find photos. this year just seems so less exciting that previous years. maybe just because i've been otherwise occupied... i donno...i'm on a mission next year

Bring on WC FINALS!!!

What awesome too is to see their are some youngster pushing behind as well! Floriane Pugin cleaned the junior girls by 30s and is just 10s out of Tracy! At least we know there is still going to be some good racing coming :)

You dont even make any sense. Im just back from the race and let me tell you that it was fvcking brilliant! The atmosphere was unbelievable, who gives a toss if it rains. Its just water you know, it wont kill you. Fort Bill has been consistently voted as the best round of the World Cup for the last few years. He was in real pain at the finish, as soon as he got down the shirt was off and several team guys were round him attending to him, it was not a pretty sight seeing somebody in pain like that.

to the contrary, he doesn't make much of a fuss about it. fact is, it's popped out during a few race runs this year and he's been on the podium despite it which is pretty flippin' impressive. He was in serious pain when he crossed the line in Ste. Anne so it's been no small effort on his part to keep racing.

every interview i've seen/read he seems to downplay it as just another variable to contend with during the race. certainly doesn't use it as an excuse, he's too much a class act for that.

most people wouldn't wack off with a dislocated shoulder let alone pin it down a world cup track.

Before this gets out of hand.

All i'm saying is he's had these shoulder problems for several years. Just seems like it should have been taken care of already....especailly with his resources and level of professionalism.

Really, strengthening and rehabbing a dislocated shoulder is basic stuff.....ten of thousands of atheletes rehab that injury all the time.

not all shoulder injuries can be fixed with rehab you dumb @ss. his definitely requires surgery that is pretty invasive (at least 2-3 months off the bike).

He was a friend of a friend who works for a photo agency in London and headed up North to shoot something a little different, normally does news stuff and had never even been to a mtb event before, we gave him a bit of a bluffers guide as to how the whole thing works and he went off and shot some great photos. I think it is interesting to see how someone who is not a MTBer or long time MTB photographer shoots the sport.

I can almost gaurentee his needs surgery. Any shoulder that pops out that many times does.

My brother just went through it and my best friend is now. It's around 6 months including rehab for each of their surgerys (slightly different.)

yea, I do know his shoulder problem. so do all the other people that shred hard and have the same problem. something you may not know much about. i was being conservative with the recovery. like red bull said, it's more like 6 months. and if you're a real pro DHer you spend the whole off season training and don't really have an off season.

hey now, easy.....it's not an opinion....it's true, he's had shoulder issues for a while and the way i look at it, of all pro MTB riders (aside from maybe lopes) minnaar has the most financial clout (honda?!?!) and could get the surgery done by the best surgeons out there

......the longer you put stuff like that off the worse it is......my brother's shoulder was dislocated 4-5 times...he had the surgery which wasn't that bad according to him(and he's a puss) and was back to full strength/range of motion in 5 months......his only regret was not doing it sooner

I was told on several occasions throughout this season that those rims are meant to crush in order to avoid flats. Still not sure if thats true, but that photo definatly lends some more credibility. Perhaps with a harder rim, we would have a different World Champion.

My shoulder My Shoulder.
That's all Minaar ever says.

After Sam Hill kicks his butt for the 23rd time in a row.

You are a bit of a spoondick really. As far as I could make out from actually being at the event was that Minnaar crashed in the new woods section and to fall caused the shoulder to dislocate again and also caused the separate injury of a broken scapula. So unlike in MSA where his shoulder popped out on it's own, it was a crash in Fort Bill that caused the current shoulder problems for Minnaar.

To pick himself up and finish in the time he did on the most brutal, physical course out there, with 4th place and the time he got is truly out standing and a heroic display of determination and professionalism. For you to make assumptions about the level of work or rehab Greg and his team has put into fixing his shoulder problems is sad.

Ride of the weekend for me was Minnaar.

So let me get this straight:
Minnaar crashed, dislocated his shoulder, BROKE his scapular, got back on the bike, continued to race the remaining half of what is regarded as one of the most demanding DH courses and finished only seven seconds down?
Holy f**k.
This is one of those 'what if...' moments.

you mean a "what if he was going slower and didn't crash?" looks like he was on a scorcher, but couldn't ride it all the way home.

he must have been hauling ass to get that time with a crash and a bum shoulder. the last 2:40 of that track doesn't look like much of a picnic.

I met who should be our next great hope this weekend at Snowshoe. A kid who was only 14 riding a RMX w/ DHX Air. He finished 3rd to Trevyn and Adam Raphael on a near 5 minute course!!!

Please tell me there is a pro team who will sign him to race the full circuit next year!

Edit: Kid's name is Neko.

That kid has some serious potential. I havent seen him super pinned yet but he is always super solid and has a style that you just dont see in younger riders. And for his age his line choices are quite impressive too, its really cool to see a young rider like that knifing a corner inside the main line. He would have been really quick at the Whiteface 5k race if it wasnt for a flat tire. I think he still ended up 4th.

It sounds like he is getting his speed dialed now too.
