View Full Version : customer appreciation day?

hey, I was wondering if Diablo would consider a customer appreciation day? Here's what I was thinking. A big race, season pass holders only, no charge, no classes, purely for bragging rights and fun. Keep the course pretty mild. And a big barbecue/beers at the base afterward...show your pass to get a bracelet type of event. I think that would be a day that every pass holder would really enjoy. Cool way to reinforce the community feel at the mountain too.

pfft. ya right. i wish too, but come on. diablo has nothing to gain by it so it probably wont happen. however i am down for a stopwatch race down alpine.

no classes make it really easy to run. With no prizes it wouldn't matter what place you came in. It would just be a fun event to do a little trash talk amongst the other pass holders.
demo - that's unfortunately what I was thinking too. there isn't any profit for Diablo, but maybe the sponsors would help defray the costs, and maybe a few more guys buy a season pass next year knowing they could join in? not to mention the good will. with the expense I guess it is unlikely.

It would be fun, just you against yourself to get the best time (oh and for some bragging rights too). But Like most of you said it probably won't happen, and if it did they would probably do it midweek which sucks for us who work.
But a sweet idea none the less

From what i have witnessed, I'd say that this year most of the Local riders are 16 Y/O and under...
Now, how would Diablo look serving beer to these youngsters?
you fukers should be happy you have a mountain to ride, i know i am.... a buddy of mine moved to Florida, and there are no mountains (all landfill) so he sold his Freeride bike and his DH, nows a he's a roadie...
I think he's wearing spandex too, but i can't confirm that.... lol

Why don't you all just agree to race the next domination race and then compare your times for bragging rights?
Maybe the mountain could give you season pass holders a discount on the race entry fee.

You are the sloppiest biker I have ever seen when you're hung over, Bobby. Beer and MTB is a bad idea, I think.
And just as a point of reference, I know 2006 was a washout but isn't Diabloween somewhat of an equivalent? If they had food somewhere up on the mountain, the live band, the jump contest, everybody riding in costume, I think the day is pretty fun and relaxing. Discounted tickets and just-for-fun timed events would be an additional bonus, but I think 'ween is the perfect time for something like this. A nice signoff for those still standing at the end of the season.

I don't know if a customer appreciation day would happen, but it would be nice if season pass holders got a break on race entry fees.
It sucks to have to still pay $60 to race when you paid over $300 for your season pass already.
I mean why so much to race when you don't need lift tickets?

this is why the Race is Voluntary....
i prefer just to ride... phuck racing....

Whoever heard of a race that wasn't voluntary?
That's nice that you just want to ride, have a good time.
Some of us enjoy racing, so if it doesn't concern you (since you don't care to race), why reply to a post about it?

guys, when you start feeling angry or upset, look at the avatar and/or Timekiller's post. Life is good.
NJMX, I agree 100%. if pass holders got 50% off race fees, i bet Diablo would make even more money than they do now. You'd get dozens more entrants for almost zero added expense. Plus I bet they would sell a lot more season passes.
dave, definitely try a race before you say that. you'll be on our side! racing is like heroin.

Exactly, i agree 100%. Why should we pay for 2 lift tickets when we already have a season pass. That's why i'm not racing the Domination Series anymore... wasting cash.

or shawn could reduce entry fees, give out brake pads and stickers for finishing 2nd like other races do (plattekill), open up for one hour less like other resorts(whiteface), charge more for a daily lift ticket (snowshoe), have 2 less races (snowshoe again)...
Race fees have little to do with lift tickets and more to do with increased staffing and timing costs, increased insurance costs, pro purse size, etc. Diablo's fees are in-line with everyone elses (a quick internet search will show this) while providing higher quality prizes for ams and beginners and more money for pros. racing is racing, you race to see how fast you are and how you rate against other racers, not to win some worthless trinket because you were the 7th fastest 35 yr old to complete the course.
as far as customer appreciation day, Diabloween is a whole weekend with a no-cost jump contest with a cash payout, a festive atmosphere, and barring power outtages and wind, live music. food service of that magnitude requires permits, and beer and downhill... I dont have to even explain that one.
this is a good thread with many good ideas, and constructive criticism is always good for growth. cheap shots and complaints dont solve anything though...

hey I didn't mean for this to become controversial. just thought it would be a lot of fun. obviously the beer would be AFTER the lifts closed. ha. "Diablo" has always seemed like a fair and decent guy to me. I must say the volleyball pics were a welcome surprise! Who cares about customer appreciation!?

is it UNamerica to cheer for Brazils volleyball team?
or everyone with a season pass to just take a day to make a group ride then go for beers after and mock those not old enough to enjoy a tasty cold one :lighten:

What kinda bike you ride? Probably one of those bikes made in Korea or Thailand or something, i ride an R9, at least i've gotten to meet the guy who Welded My Bike... FTW... Now That's AMERICAN!
