Haha what a joke. Top amateurs would of been 6th/7th in pro. Guess Diablo is pretty strict about sandbaggers & policing it. Maybe it's just me.

but dude, whats the point in racing if u cant sandbag. we all know that the top 10 in each class need mad schwag.

Or maybe the pros are just too slow. ;)
Jurgen did beat the next "pro" by 7 SECONDS!!! ;)

these results actually look better than most races. top 10 in pro for the top 2 AM guys is reasonable.
talk about a sandbagger, check out intro women. she would have placed 3rd in Am a second behind 2nd place. three classes for a total of 7 girls always seemed silly to me. not that I care, Diablo can do whatever they want, just looks funny.
more importantly, anyone know what happened to James Ford? that guy was tearing it up last year and I haven't heard anything about him all summer?

u should be too. ur pretty good. although ill give u till the end of this year. i talked to joey's friend and he is only doing it for prizes... i say we give vernonrider another chance and get rida joey for a lil while.
take the people that are in the top 10 consistently should be moved into the pro class. Then for the people that have been in INTRO for a full year or who has done more then 3 races should be moved up to AM

hey, that was only my "3rd" race. first one i fell and dislocated my shoulder and had bike problems and finished in 13th and then the second race i tacoed my front wheel in practice and broke my knuckles and this race i stayed up and finished 5th in intro which aint bad for just startin in may. but hey if you guys think i should move up and get 40th in AM then try and make me. untill then im stayin in intro this year.

this isnt about u. i am talking about people that podiom in am for a full year, then do it again. even after loosing their chain. not everybody that podiums is sandbagger. just alot of them. if anybody remembers the first year these races were held. the intro times were slow, am were pretty fast. and pro were really far away. it seems like every race they get closer.
let the flaming begin!!!
*and as far as me wanting to win. i dont care anyway. i dont use anything that i would win anyway...*

yea i hear ya on that man, but hey if it makes those people feel good inside about winning against slower guys, then be it. but if you really want to win, start training, get a new rig and start lettin go and rip down the mountain. those are the people that should motivate you to go fast and beat them.i plan on goin up in AM next year and hopefully start getting top 20 or even 10 by the end of the year. thats my goal i wanna move up.
i also dont understand some people would rather have a 1st place AM then a 5th place pro. i dont understand i think its more of a "braggin right" then a first place AM. i mean dont get me wrong 1st place AM is good but you will only get faster in the pro class.
my .02 cents.

Because they are in it for all the free "product."

08-07-2007, 06:54 PM
the only solution is to properly motivate people to move up. no prizes for Intro, top 8 in AM get product, top 10 in pro get paid. but the bottom line is Diablo has no reason to rock the boat. they want people filling all three classes, give away some stuff they got for free and rake in the entry fees. the issue of keeping each class fair is not one they care about or you'd see a Norba-like classification and registration process

with regards to the whole sandbagger thing yeah this race you saw alot of them in am. 2:38 for am??? thats pro time. seriously move up a class and let the people who are ment for that class race against people with their skill level. let them have a chance.

who told you i was only in it for prizes im just racing intro because its my first

fyi... There are a few examples of racers that are not eligible to race on a 'pro' level due to scholastic requirements and the potential to be ineligible for scholastic sports. This is one of the reasons that we do not mandate amatuers being bumped to Pro automatically.
Just because someone is fast, or has a good run, does not make them a sandbagger.
the issue of keeping each class fair is not one they care about or you'd see a Norba-like classification and registration process
That is not the case. We designed our classes to raise the level of competition and allow racers to move-up on their own without the need for expensive licenses and the abundance of age groups and classes. Traditonal racing categories gives riders a false sense of accomplishment, leads to complacency and more opportunities to sandbag. We offer nearly $7500 in cash and product for each race and nearly $50k in cash and prizes for the entire series. Perhaps we should revert to a 'traditional series' and run a series the way "things used to be done"?

i am confident i can get a top 5 am. (not right now i am injured) i dont understand the logic in sandbagging. not everybody does as previous people have stated. i just think that i do 1 norba race. (norba is the worst of all)and the times are all far apart and split up. then i go to the diablo races. (which are alot more fun, better stuff too)and the top times are all intertwined.
it is funny because they do know who they are.

Diablo is probably referring to Pro/AM regulations. If an athlete participates as a pro in one sport they can lose their amateur status in other sports. My guess is that many high school (scholastic) sport associations have such a rule. Collegiate ones, as well. A lot of times once you go pro you can't go back. Of course, this varies by sport and the governing organization.

I've been racing at diablo for 3 years now and I've never once entered as intro. My first race there was US open 05 and i just went as amature from there on out. With out a doubt I have gotten much faster, but Every race i fall farther and farther back in position. Two years ago back when they did the stigmata race i placed somewhere in the high teens with a pretty slow time. This past weekend i had a 2:56.38 in amature and placed something like 27th...
I have come down to two solutions....either I will stop racing at diablo period because im basicly throwing money out the window. why do i want to pay for sandbaggers to win races? I'm just not going to be part of that that. Or I myself am going to sign up as intro for the next race JUST BECAUSE I CAN. And if i do get top three, i will NOT go up on the podium, or i will do my own product toss if i do decide to go up.
lets put it into perspective. george ryan got a 2:34, the fastest amature was only 4 seconds behind a fully sponsored pro...hmmm how about PJ?? He's damn fast rider and he would have only come in third in amature! IMO i think anything faster than a 2:42 on that course was a pro time.

I take back my comment about Diablo not caring to keep it fair. That was wrong to say. Mainly what I was trying to say is that under the current system the racers have to take it upon themselves to move up when they should. For real, I honestly don't think sandbagging is as big a problem as people think.
however, I do stand by my point about motivating guys to jump up in class. I think if you paid deeper into the Pro category, more AM guys would be willing to take a shot.
on a lighter note, the season series race in all the classes is getting really tight (except pro - Jurgen is ridiculous this year...I call steriods ;) ). should be an awesome stretch run.

riding and racing aren't the only sports that some ams compete in.
academic and athletic scholarships can get a them much futher than moving up a class cause they have close to pro times.
they are all jr x what sort of times should the do

why not make a seperate class for sandbaggers. offer prizes. that would be the most competitive

and here is how it would work.
1st-product
2nd-product
3rd-product
last-free pass to intro for a race
second from last-free pass for AM for a race
3rd from last-free pass to pro
