Ok, this may sound like a newb post but here goes...

My wrists took a beating up at Northstar this weekend. Sure, I'm getting old and N* can be brutal. But I noticed all day that I seemed to be holding my hands in a akward position and then I would feel the pain off a big drop or hitting one of the millions of rocks.

It might be that the bend in my bars (Easton) are not the best for me. I also think that because I have big-ass hands, and bar diameter is so small that I compensate by holding my bars in a wierd death grip.

I'm wondering, in the absence of larger diameter bars, that thicker grips may help. I could be completely wrong about this but does anyone know of any big, thick grips that aren't too soft?

When I got back on the bike from a broken hand, I put the ODI Rouges on my bike to cushion my hand. Now I have them on both bikes and my hand is better. They feel great and they are not too thick.

Yep, the ODI Rogues or the ODI version of the Oury grip- both are pretty thick.

i put odi rouges on for sugar and when i got to the bottom I wanted to chop off my hands because they were cramping so bad. I may have been death gripping the bars due to nervousness or to make me feel like i wasnt sliding around on the mud, but I wanted to snap my hands off for about 7 minutes.

The Yeti lock-on's are pretty thick as well.

As the others said, rogues and oury's...rogues aren't as soft, but they last longer and have better grip in the wet conditions.

I would say that your best bet is with the oury lockons by odi. super soft, big, and great for northstar

Yeti's aren't that thick. To me, they seem a bit thicker than Intense or Ruffians, but not a huge amount.

Anyway, Rogues or Oury are a good bet. Rouge's are a bit thinner and stiffer, Ourys are big and soft.

I have Odi Rogues and Oury's on 2 of my x-c bikes. I like them both and have no preference.

If your wrists hurt, check the angle of your brake levers. If they are up too high, it might cause your wrists to bend too much.

I was using the Ruffian grips on all bikes.........and my wrists hurt and hands after riding. I tried switching to some Oury grips and my problems went away.

As far as lock on's go I think those are the larger ones. The Rouge didn't feel as thick as the Oury grips. Infact I have a set of Intense grips, and Ruffian's that I'm going to try and get rid of so I can put another pair of Oury's on the DJ bike.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll one or two of these a try and see how it goes.

That's a good point to bring up, but is definitely not the case for me. On every complete bike I've ever bought I've had to lower the levers because they tend to be set too high for me.
