have been on one ride so far and it rides so sweet, steel frames ride smooth as!
heres some stuff on it

wow real nice! How much did it cost to build the frame? How long did it take to build? How does it ride?

Looks very tidy.
Personally I'd whack the biggest shock I could in there and set up the link for 7" with a good BB height if possible. Your choice of weight over plushness and the ability to up the travel with a bigger shock was a wise one.
Looks great. Good design.
Any brake induced weirdness?

umm.... the checks in the mail aye.
as for the ride its so nice , you have to ride a steel full sus to know how it feels i reckon.
no brake weirdness so far but mite not notice it with 6" travel

Great work, nice fab details there too. looks very pro.
What tools did you have at your disposal.
What welder did you use?

nice job - how long did it take you to design and build it?

dirtdigger

it took about 4 weeks to build it,the design time has been a while.
as for tools all i have is a jig saw, angel grinder, some wooden bench vice thing and a cheep **** ass tig welder

That bolt in the BB pivot is HUGE. Frame looks good. Wish I had the skills to design/build my own frame. I would be scared to ride anything I could produce :)

You may have just pushed me over the edge to learn to weld.
Very cool!!

I like the lack of a slot in the dropouts. I wish more companies would do this.

looks sick, and steel frames do feel awesome. I'd say make a shorter bottom mount for the shock and put a longer stroke on there to give you a better leverage ratio

that looks great!!!

maybe a little bit of polishing on the hardware front and thats it!

i really like that way you solved the horst dropout zone.

hey thanks for the good feed back!
the handling is sweet compeered to my old sort steep 6" trail bike and corners real good, the top tube is long and low so you can leen it in to the turn and does real mean drifts, nice over off camber stuff to,i think that is due to the supple ride you get from steel(kinda springy but not flexi i guess).
yeah the rear dropouts came out prety mint, made out of 4.8ish mm plate and theres room for another pivot hole if there was some pedal jack but its good where it is at the mo

Nice looking bike you got there dirtdigger. Any idea on frame weight? What gauge tubes did you use?

where did you get your tubing and the tools for the bottom bracket thread?

banj

Damn, the new one looks really clean. The big aluminum linkage plates look a little out of place. Something a little sleeker would really finish off the bike nicely.

I got the tubing from a local aerospace outfit and bb shell from a frame builder, would love to get some butted tubes.
Yes the rockers need some CNC work, hopefully next week this will be sorted out plus I need a lathe, mill and make a start on some jigs.
So do you guys think these frames would sell?

How do you hold / jig the frame for welding? I would be amazing if you could do a how to with pics. If you don't end up selling them.

There's a really cool website out there - www.smartflix.com It's like netflix, but they only carry how-to videos. Anyway, they have a couple good framebuilding videos. I think Paterick is the guys name that does the videos. You can also find his videos to buy online for about $75.
