Wes at Epic told me this last week, but at first I didn't believe it.

Courtesy of SORBA:

It's official- the Forest Service no longer has right of way on the
upper portion of Old 70. The property owner does, evidently, have the
legal right to revoke it. The ORAMM will use Mill Creek past the geyser
twice now- actually adds up to more mileage and more dirt, so that's a
good thing in my mind for the race, but a VERY BAD thing for regular
Kitsuma loops. This is all per the Forest Service. What individuals
choose to do is none of my business, but know you are trespassing and
generally giving a bad impression of MTB-er's.
Thanks
Mike

We rode that loop Sunday. There is no signage at the bottom of old 70 alerting users of the change. The gate at the top has been extended on either side to block traffic. This gate is marked "no hiking" and "no bikes". An older gentleman on a cruiser type bike at the gate talked to us for a while. He said the owner owns about a mile of the road and does not know why he has blocked it. I think it's a bit much to expect someone to just turn around and go back the way they came.

Just drove up to it on my way home. Just looks like the same old gate, only with those extensions from bank to bank...and the words stenciled on. Nothing outlandish. But stil...one BASTARD of a move. That was a highway when I was a kid...how someone just owns it now is beyond me. How someone is indignant enough to people to do that...just too much money on his damn hands if you ask.
