View Full Version : 3/8" / 9mm axle step up to 20mm dropout slots?
my current fork and hub do not have a 20mm through axle. if i get new forks, are there an step up washer/adapters i can use so i can keep the same wheel?
in bmx people frequently use step up washers for 3/8" axle in a 14mm slot.

As far as I know, no this is not possible unless you hub is convertible between 20mm and 9mm.

The only convertible hubs I know of are the mavic deemax/deetraks/ and crossmax sx's. they have adapters to go make 20mm a 9mm. and vise versa

yes, the parts are out there.
i have adapters that allows the use of a 'small' qr hub in a 20 mm fork. i think they used to be sold by QBP.
thanks.... i don't want to 'convert' the hub--i just want some of these, but 3/8 to 20mm instead of 3/8 to 14mm :

I'm thinking it might not work due to the spacing. 20mm forks are 110mm and qr forks are 100mm spaced.

as i said before, the spacers exist. they allow you to run a 3/8" axel on a 20 mm fork using a very long rear QR squewer. QBP used to sell them and perhaps they still do.

just get a new hub, if you ghetto-rig it for a qr hub, you'll likely loose the stiffness factor which is the main advantage to a 20mm hub. also, forks w/ 20mm axles come with their own axle which slides in through the hub, unlike a qr hub.
