I'm wanting to change the gearing on my SS Motobecane MTB (the ones that are being sold on ebay). Will this work?

Does anyone have any exp. using a BMX freewheel on an MTB hub?

No, it won't work. 16 tooth is the smallest that will fit a "normal" freewheel hub. Some flip-flop BMX hubs used to have a smaller diameter on one side (the flop side?) that allowed for the use of 14 or 15 tooth freewheels. There is a company called AC that has recently produced a 15 tooth that will fit on the standard size thread, but I don't know if it is still in production. Here is a link to some info.
