Here is the quote from SORBA forums:lighten: :

This morning at 8:00 the president of the bike dealers assioation
Graig Friedrich, Mike and Claudia Nix and myself met with Allen
Dunlap the Crime Prevention officer at Asheville PD under the Smokey
Park Bridge on the city side. There are 2.6 acres of land under
there that is currently being used by vagrants, hookers, and drug
dealers (do you think Crayola makes condoms there must have been 64
colors). It is wooded except under the bridges and quite an
experiance to see how it is being used right now. The City wants to
clean it up crime wise and there are 2 options. One is a chain link
fence with barbed wire around the site and the other is make it into
a kick ass mountain bike park. A lot of it is steeper than a mules
face but it has a lot of cool features. There is a sidewalk along
240 to it from downtown and a set of concrete steps about 30' long
right to it. We have the opertunity to make it into an awsome
facility. The free ride part of the Mtn Sports festival could be
held there and it is just a hop skip and a jump over to the mellow
drome from there. I guess the name of that area is called Chicken
Hill and there is a developer that owns a lot of land next to this
place that is really on board too. He has hired some landscape
designer that is supposed to be the next Umstead or whatever to
design this whole artist comunity on his land. They are having a big
deal there on the 30th I think. Anyway I personaly am on board and
excited about it. We discussed how to get Private Money as well as
grants and I after some ideas were floated it looks like we can get
the dough. Woody shared the Colonade Park idea with us a while back
but to refresh your memory check out this
website. http://www.bbtc.org/colonnade/
