n00b tubeless question

I'm going to be making some trips to downieville this summer, and have finally decided to go tubeless to save me the hassel of changing flats up there.

I've got a set of mavic 819s, have ordered some Stan's, now all I have to do is figure out tires. UST tires seem super heavy, is it possible to run something like a regular (non ust) highroller using stan's?

I don't run tubeless, but from what I've heard, you'd run into leak probs if you don't go UST. I checked my buddies UST tires and they have an extra lip on the outside of the bead. Looks like it's there to make a more positive seal with the rim.

I've messed with all sorts of tires for tubeless with ghetto/UST/Bontrager setups, and UST tires work the best. No questions. However, other than UST, downhill tires in general seem to be able to be converted most effectively with no worries about seating or sidewall cuts on pinner XC-type sidewalls.

go ust with tyres, i run maxxis mostly.. no probs in two years. i have tried non ust tyres but they ar not as good specificly in the sidewall to prevent tears.. i run mavics they are made for the ust it will work great for u but use the stans so they dont lose air over time

I run non-UST nevegals on 823's for years and not one problem!

I run UST tires on Tubeless rims with no sealant at all.
People never believe me when I tell them this.
I have never had a leak or puncture problem.
I do have to put about 10 lbs back in them every 2 weeks or so, but I never have any noticeable problems during rides.

That is my XC bike though, I would imagine that DH is different, also I dont weigh very much.

I'm running Minion DHF & DHR 2.35 single plys on my trail bike with Crossmax XL's. No probs there at all.

DH bike is Minion DHF's 2.5 with 823's. No probs either.

Both non UST w/2 scoops of Stan's..
