Hey guys,
Quick question, which is the better fork for freeride and downhill between:
2005 Marzocchi 888 VF
and
2006 Marzocchi Drop Off Triple (I think it's an 06, it comes on the Kona Stinky 2006).
I know the 888's would better, but is that still the considering it's an 05 pair of 888's?
Also, how would the 05 888 VF compare to the 07 Drop Off Triples?

the 888 is a better fork for sure. drop offs are pretty much garbage, they break easily and the damping is so basic that it feels like you are riding a pogo stick down the mountain. i'm pretty sure the internals are springs and elastomers, whereas the 888 is adjustable and also has a damping cartridge to control the motion of the fork. please, please get the 888, you will definitely be much happier.

So the 888 VF, even being 2 years old, is a better choice then the 1 year old Drop Off Triple, or even the new 07 Drop Off Triple?
If so, I'll definitely opt for the 888 VF.

yes, assuming the 888 VF is not used and beaten up badly.

Alright, thanks for the help, that answers my question pretty well. If anyone else wants to leave comments though, please do. Looks like I'm gonna go with the 888 VF fork then.

anything ssv will still feel not so good, your best be would be to get something with HSCV or the newer RC internals

Here is another comparison:
How does a 66 R compare to a 66 VF? And how does the better of these two compare to the 888 VF?

As stated already, SSV stuff doesn't feel nice, and will pack up bad in a DH application. There are some NOS 05 888RCs on blowout if you look around (http://wheelworld.com/itemdetails.cfm?catalogId=39&id=4226). I'd go with a Boxxer long before I'd pay decent money for any of the VF products.
Good luck,
Chris
