First off - this is a repost (check PAWN forum)

Second - She really did not get special treatment. The system here is so over burdened that they do everything they can do to make sure that people do not spend mch time in jail for non-violent/non-injury related items. This refers to ANYONE, not just the celebs.

Knew a guy (freind of a freind) with MULTIPLE warrants, got arrested and spent very little time in jail. Even then, he was allowed to leave during the day to go to work...

I personally wish they had given her death...

She got 5 days in jail, which is more than a lot of celebrities get.

I understand why everyone is all in a huff about this whole thing, what with celebrities and their special treatment, but none of it really matters. She's a spoiled socialite, that really has nothing to offer this world, but it doesn't really benefit the public to have her complete her 29 day (or whatever length it was) jail sentence. She got caught, with a suspended license and a dui, and was sentenced to jail. She didn't really get away with anything.

So she spent five days in jail. Is Five days not enough? It'd be enough for me. I don't think someone like Paris Hilton is going to reach a major epiphany or understanding about herself in 29 days in jail anyway.

She didn't kill anyone, rob any banks etc. I'd rather have room in jail for those that commit those crimes. Granted driving under the influence can lead to deaths, but she was caught by the cops before something like that could happen.

Whatever, this is just like....my opinion man..

The SUPER SUCKY thing about this.... she's prolly gonna get a 10million book deal or movie of the week deal from this. Plus all the stupid "oh how was it" interviews that we'll be seeing for the next year, and all those stupid talkshow's and tabloids are gonna be spinning this for months.

THAT'S IT, I'M UNPLUGGING THE TV!

I think it a frightfully sad commentary on my own existence that I required no clarification of this post.

The sentence was 40 days, reduced to 25 due to overcrowding and then released after 3 days. She got 3 days!

Had it been you or I, I'm guessing I would be in for 25, even if my jock itch flared up.

What sort of "example" are they setting with 3 days in only to be release to house arrest for the rest of the term?

See my post above - No it would not have been longer for us... the pain we would feel is in our wallet due to the fines, however since she is the richest women on the planet (according to my wife - we had this debate tuesday), I'm sure it didn't really bother her.

I disagree. My girlfriend's father got a DUI a couple of years ago and was sentenced to 15 days in tent city in Maricopa County, Arizona. It was his first offense and he had not even had a traffic ticket in almost 20 years. He served every minute of that sentence, plus mandatory counseling. That is in addition to the big fine he paid.

His lawyer sucked. Everyone I know with one has received a 10 day sentence with 8 days deferred and they let them do their 2 days over the weekend.

So he was arrested in LA and they shipped him to AZ?

Or was he caught in a smaller city/town where they do not have the same issues with crime as the second largest city in the country?

If you were caught in LA - treatment would be the same... yeah different parts to the country are going to act differently. But under the EXACT same circumstances - you or I would probably not even have done the 3 days.

Agreed.

And if the debate is whether or not she "got away with anything", the answer is: she didn't get away with anything, at least in regards to her dui, and the suspended license.

Whether or not her punishment is severe enough is up for debate, but really it's just wasted breath.

She got caught, went to court, and was sent to jail.

5 days in jail, or billion days in house arrest, she still got punished.

If any lesson for the younger Paris Hilton's out there is to be learned from this, is that even Paris Hilton is not immune from time in jail. Be it 5 days or longer.

All of this just equals more money for her from book deals etc.

That must be exteme DUI? So maybe his lawyer didn't suck.

I blew a 2.7 at a machine in a bar once while going for high score. I won. A shot of tequila right before you blow is the key to higher scores.

Actually, he lives in Phoenix, the 6th largest city in the country and if you look at the the statistics, has a higher crime rate than LA.

While in the UAE, we had a race to do 12 shots, then run out to the go cart track they had behind the bar. Somewhere there are some great shots of drunken sailors tearing up a crappy go-cart track in Dubai.

It was the cheesy go-carts like the ones at Family Fun Center. There was one car that smoked real bad and who ever got that car had to run the course backwards.

After it was all said and done, I did feel bad for the guy running the cars. He was by himself and there was 6 of us. He never had a chance.

I wish I could remember the name of the park. It was a huge place with a water park and ice rink. The bar was a huge mistake.

<edit> FOUND IT! The Wild Wadi Water Park in Jebel Ali. Awesome.

The big question (In my little mind.) is how much will she make from this (Book, interview, resultant PR blitz etc.) vs. how much it cost the citizens of LA county to prosecute and jail a spoiled rich kid whose parents never paid that much attention to her in the first place? How much of that $$ could have gone to a quasi decent cause? Nice going, LA prosecutor!
3 days? Not even enough time for her prison tatts to heal.

And JD, you havent drunken go karted til you have done it in Germany after a Schnapps binge.
60 mph go karts+ A hoop of Schnapps=bad craziness...
