Anyone know if Hayes adapters will work with Avid Mech. Brakes?
I've got a 24 LeToy and I can't get the pads to line up with the disc as I move the wheel into a shorter chainstay position. The Hayes 6" adapter looks to position the caliper more on top of the disc rather than behind it, so I'm thinking that it'll have better alignment than the stock avid adapter. However, I'm unsure if that'll cause problems because of the different (?) angles at which the avid caliper and hayes caliper sit in relation to the disc.
thanks

the big difference between Avids and Hayes is the V-brake style ball joint washers that come with the Avids. This is why Avid runs a slightly larger rotor than Hayes. Try removing the washers from the Avid setup first and see if that works (it should move the caliper closer to the disk.)

Plus how new is the stuff? there was an old standard and a new standard. Also there are a bunch of adapters.

Yeah you can. You just need to use washers or spacers where the caliper bolts to the adapter.

Yes, you can bolt the Avids directly to Hayes adapters. You must use all of the gimballed washers that are currently on your brakes. Those are the convex/concave ones that allow for the tilt adjustment. It may help you line things up a bit.
