Im not really a road rider but I did a fun road ride on Mon. Glacier Park is still closed to cars, so we tried to ride to the top of Logan Pass. We almost made it to the top, but my buddy couldnt go any further, so we turned around. It was 90 degrees and no shade. It was a little hot. It was a 16 mile climb in the granny gear on a road bike. Coming down was a blast, but the road was still full of rocks and sand. You had to go slow on corners. I was still hitting 35mph, but you had to really watch the debris.

Some places of the road had been cleaned.

Very cool. How long does it stay 'car free'?

I'd love to ride my bike the length of that road.
Here is a shot I took on a backpacking trip through glacier, August 2003

I just wish I could do that trip again with more than a 16MB memory card. :disgust1:

I only live 30 miles from Glacier and only make it up there once or twice a year. Our mountain biking around here is just out of this world.
The road is closed to cars till around June 16th.
Im not much of a road rider but Glacier has really changed my mind. Im going to ride up there every year before they open. They do a midnight ride on a full moon this year. Im going to try and make it. I hear it is just awesome.
I plan on riding it again on Sat with a group of different people. We should be able to make it to the top. My work buddy I road with on Mon is almost 60 yo and the sun really got to him. It was hot and NO wind.
Here are a couple threads from last years mountain bike adventures. These trails are right next to Glacier.

i believe you, maybe sometime this summer or next year i could trek out there and you could show me some of the goods?
In the meantime if you want to travel to the corner of NE Washington State next month, i'm putting on this shindig, you're welcome to come to represent Montana.:)

Wow, great pics. I've been to Glacier twice and would love to go back. It's definitely one of the most beautiful places I've been to. On a nice day, it's ridiculously easy to take postcard-like photos. Thanks for sharing!

Finally made it to the top. In the last 5 days I have climbed over 15,000 vertical feet. 10K on pavement and 5k on single track.

Nice........did a bike tour down the continental divide on MTBs and BOB trailers. We took a detour (through polebridge of course) and up and over the pass. Really ugly place.

There was a guy riding up with a bob trailer with skis and a snowboard. He was hauling a lot of crap. It was super windy at the top.
