My brother left South Carolina today and is driving to Jackson Hole for the summer. He was hoping to get a few days of DH in Colorado on his way through. I just looked up Winterpark and Vail, but neither is open yet. Are there any lifts running NOW?

Also, I'll be flying out in August to ride back with him. We'll have a few extra days to ride on the way back. What should we check out?

Thanks!

I don't think there are any lifts running in CO until June 15th. Check out Keystone at the end of the summer. Also Winter Park will be stepping it up this year so keep them and Vail in mind.

Vail is a joke. They charge twice as much as Keystone, have half as many trails, and had 2 or 3 good trails closed all summer long. Unless you know the out of boundary trails, I would go elsewhere.

Snowmass opens its lift for June 9th and 10th, but unless you live here, it isn't worth it (hell, even if you live here it is barely worth it.)

It's too bad Vail had their good trails closed last year. A couple years ago, I would've described Keystone as a good family mtb destination, and Vail as it's burlier big brother. Keystone has stepped it up, and unfortunately, Vail has taken a couple steps back. Maybe after this year's Crankworx, WP will move up on the list a bunch.

Rode the Snomass lift today. The trails are in pretty bad shape especially the DH course. The 4X course on the other hand is $$.

I'm pretty sure Vail and Key both charge about 28 or 29 bucks.

Keystone has way more freeride-esque features and is generally a very good time. I hear they are going to have 4 or 5 new trails this year!

Vail is great too, I love the trails they have open but they are more racey, world cup type of trails, which is great. I'd like to see keystone do the same.

Except only Keystone offers 2 for 1s with a CO pass.
