Well, I still am awaiting my post mount adapter but the rest of the bike is together. I used to have it built up as a dual 24" beast with 3.0" Tires and Avalanche forks. It was too much for the riding I do now so I'm working on building it lighter. Still going to go with a lighter crank set up and possibly a ti spring at some point.

I'll get the actual weight of it once I get the front brake set up. It used to weigh in at 54lbs! That'sa lot of weight when you're 5'5" and weigh 172lb. Hope the photo works, I'm a newbie at posting pics here on ridemonkey.

Looks like a great build. Do you have any pictures of it in its previous form--I'd love to see that

who makes that frame?

who makes that frame?

The frame is built by Dan Stapleton in Kelowna B.C.
He also used to make a 9" travel full bearing linkage for the older Big Hits for use with Avalanche 9x3 shocks.

While inspired by the Canfield, his does have a number of unique qualities including the machined out sections in the frame and the octagonal headtube. Really well built frame and I couldn't be happier with it.

I added a little custom paint work to the frame today. I always liked the look of urban camo so I went with that.
I build and airbrush custom lures for a living so this was something new for me. What do you think?

Take some more and clearer photos of the frame and the headtube and linakges etc. etc.

Is this the only model this guy builds?

Cool bike!

I'll get some better shots of it over the weekend. I think it would be sweet if he made a 7" travel version of this design. This one has 9.5" of rear travel. I'll have to ask him if he has any other designs in mind. He's got major talent for doing them for sure.

it's a great improvement by making it non-mad max looking!

Look pretty burly. Do you call it 'The Tank' or some other over used burly name? HA just kidding great looking bike though.

I'm actually very suprised at how nimble it rides now with the lighter build and the newly revalved Avy on the back. Before it would pretty much just slam over everything in sight but now I can float over huge rock gardens and pedal over rediculously rutted terrain with no fear of pedal feedback or ghost shifting. I'm loving the Sram gripshift and X-9 deralieur. Blows away the Shimanos I've used in the past.

It's a 9" eye to eye, 3" stroke Avalanche DHS and is valved to be super plush over roots and stutters but it has the high speed adjuster cranked up to suck up anything bigger. I've only ever had the shock valved for hucking when I had it on my Big Hit but now that it's been set up for riding faster trails it feels compeltely different ...in a good way!

I'm still pondering which cranks to go with. I run a single 32 tooth chainring/bash ring combo and I have a 73" BB shell. It's a toss up between Shimano XT and FSA's single ring outboard bearing cranks. Can't remember the exact name off the top of my head. I want light weight and stiffness.

I'd bump up to a little bigger ring if you are going faster now say something like a 36

The trails I ride unfortunately have as many ups as they do downs and many slower techy sections so the 32 tooth set up works for me. I agree that for pure speed a 34 or 36 tooth would be the way to go. I should be hitting some nice trails this weekend and I'm stoked now that my front brake post mount adapter came in. It's scary going fast when you only have a rear brake working!!!

I threw on a few stickers today. Looks pretty sweet IMHO.
I love the Amsoil suspension fluid I put in my forks. Rides smooth as butter.

Are hydro brakes in the future plans for the bike?

After using 2001 Hayes hydros for many years and then switching to the Avid BB7 mechanical brakes I love my brakes now! No more weird changes in lever throw or tricky setting up to get the pads just where I want them. If I only rode pure DH then I would have gotten some newer hydros for sure for sheer power but these brakes have excellent modulation and they have no problems bringing me to a halt.

Well you do have the best of the lot as far as mechanicals go. I am not questioning your skill at all but if you switch over to some hydros that have more power than what you have it will give you more confidence. Last thing do you still have the brakes and would you sell them?

Avy Rider

I do still have them as a matter of fact and I'd be happy to sell them to you if you're interested. Make me an offer.
By the way, I'm also selling two 24" Atomlabs rims as well as one 24" Arrow Racing DHR rim. One Atom Lab rim has never been built up and is a 36 hole. The others are 32 hole and the Arrow Racing rim is practically new. Also I'm selling my FSA XDrive three piece cranks and BB which are pictured on my bike.

Are you disrespecting speed? If you are I'm going to hunt you down and you would wish you had stickers for speed.
