heading in to denver for a work thing in mid-june. we're looking for a hotel downtown that will be within walking distance of lots of fun stuff, anyone have location/chain recommendations?

also, if i were looking to ride a bit in the evenings, could y'all recommend a place to rent a bike/gear and a place to ride? we probably won't have much access to vehicles. my preference is always DJ/DH/silliness, but any saddletime will be good.

Any hotel downtown is close to everything else. There's a free shuttle bus that runs along 16th Street Mall. But even then, unless you're tired, you'll probably walk cuz it's not that big.

When you look at a map, you'll notice that downtown streets run diagonally, NE-SW and NW-SE... versus the streets outside of down town which run E-W and N-S. Get a hotel within the diaganol streets and you'll be fine.

As for riding dirt, you're a good 30 minutes away. You can take a bus west to Lakewood and rent a bike from Green Mt. Sports, but if you don't have a car, that might be just too annoying to bother with.

Perhaps some monkey will offer to pick you up downtown and y'all can ride. (I'm almost strictly roadie these days.)

I'd recommend finding a downtown shop to rent from, then take the Regional RTD bus from the 16th St bus station right out to Bergen Park and ride Elk Meadow. You can connect Elk Meadow with 3-Sisters and Evergreen Mountain and make a pretty big day out of it.

http://rtd-denver.com/ - check the "EV" route schedule.

Here is info on Elk Meadow & 3 Sisters: http://www.co.jefferson.co.us/openspace/openspace_T56_R108.htm

Yeah sure, there's a lot of everything down there. Everything from the ultra-martini jazz lounge to the PBR-swilling punk bar. Get a hold of me when you're in town for sure, we'll get you out and about for some good stuff, might be able to get you a bike to ride as well depending on your schedule and whatnot. My collarbone should be healed up at least a little bit by then so hopefully I can ride with ya.

Fo sho! Will you be in town during the week then? Wednesday nights are pretty fun downtown, there's a crew of about 100 of us that rock a beach cruiser ride through the streets of LoDo/downtown Denver, and tends to be pretty silly. Other than that, there's always something going on to catch the Denver "flavor" as you say...

Oh, and I would stay away from the Royal Host Hotel on Colfax, unless you're REALLY looking for some flavor...

yeah, we're looking at Mon, Tues & Wed (June 11-13) as of now. holy crap, a beach cruiser mass? ummm... YEAH!

i think we're looking at a residence inn on Zuni, across the highway from lodo. i'll PM ya for the digitz.

The reality is that it's really more "pub crawl" than "mass" but yeah, it's pretty fun and there's definitely some good peeps that ride that. PM sent with the cellie style.

Hit me up when you are down here. I can take you to some good dj's, show you good urban in the metro area, and maybe even get some shuttle runs in....mid june most of the resorts are open with lift access which is extra nice
