i'm not sure what to take..........
the shimano dx is'nt catch the shoe enough strong so .. i'm thinking now about two other pedals
1.The Crank Brothers Mallet c
2.the TIME Z
what's better for dh ???
(sorry for my english)
so you're saying you don't like the dx pedal?
can i ask which version?
i have 4 sets of the PD-647s. they work great. shed mud really well, and i beat the crap out of all of them. have only had one bent axle.
have had them for 3 years now.

i have both mallets and shimano, but i havent had that much time on the shimanos in the wet/mud and i havent had any time on he mallets with a descent shoe yet. The shimanos for xc are by far the best they allow you to run a lighter shoe i.e dx or xc style and you can throw the bike around easily(wich is quite imortant whin youve got a light skitlish bike. For dh your feet dont come out easily(without you wanting them to) but the release angle is very shallow so they seem to come out easy when you want them to, they only problem ive had is that i have befor uncliped in a tight corner when im sliding out and as i go to pull my foot away the cleat gets stuck in the mechanism but its not cliped in so i end up going down sometimes, this might be down to my slightly cheeper clips(model down from dx) dx seem to be more rounded so they might not catch. Mallets are the complete opposite, firstly you need a shoe with good grip like the 661 launches otherwise your foot slides all over the place, the release angle because of the super loose tension(afer a few rides) has to be quite big otherwise youl find your foot coming out all the time, they have more of a flats feel because you can dab and move your feet in them that can be a good or a bad thing. they dont clog up easily in mud but i havent tried my shimano in mud so i cant realy compair the two they only real problem is that after a few months of riding the spring tension gets super loose so you need grip on your shoes to counteract this and you need new cleats every few months aswell. ive been riding mallets with shimano shoes maily(because they fitted me better) and i found it didnt work due to a lack of grip, i was ridind launches but wierd sizing meant that my foot was too far back in the shoe and it felt wierd as in spd's i like to almost be touching the end with my toes, ive just wacked some stuff in the back of my shoe to make my foot futher forward and so far it feels good but i havent riden them off road yet

and to DHS i have experience with the PD-647 of the dx they are good but the clip isnot hard and in the middle of riding my legs are getting out of the pedal (it's in the hardest situation of the pedal) so i'm searching for a new pedal

i have been using time for a while on my CX and my XC bike and i wouldn't tried them for anything. i have ridden most ever pedal on the market and i have personally found these to be by far the best out there. they shed mud well and are very resistant to rock impacts. they also will not wear your shoes like mallets and every other egg beater product will.
even though this experience is on a XC and a CX bike don't take it lightly as i ride hard on both of those bike and they get in to the strangest situation sometimes. also the times would be by far my first choice for a clipless dh pedal and i have thought about getting them more than once now.

You need to adjust the DX or your clips. Ive never had a problem with mine.

love my times to death, hated the mallets i ran, POS fell apart in less than a month
I bent a spindle on my Mallet C's and got a new free spindle in my mailbox within two days of bending it. Just broke one of the egg beater grabber things and am calling Crank Brothers up tomorrow. I'm sure they'll take care of me.
I like how the Mallets feel once you're clipped in. They always hold on the upstroke (unless the beater is broken:)) and have a comfortable amount of play before the clips disengage. On the other hand sometimes if the beater isn't lined up right its tricky to get clipped in. I also have some Shimano SPD clips which are more predictable when clipping in, however they don't hold well and constantly pop out on upstrokes even with good tension. My spd's are freakin old though so a fresher pair might prove to be more reliable.
I've heard great things about Time Z except that the bar clips break after a while. They look like a cross between SPD and Mallets so maybe you'll get the best of two worlds. I have yet to ride them but have been wanting to try a set.

I've broken two in about 5 years. It does happen but it's an easy fix and it's worth it to me for how much better they feel than shimanos and how much more durable they are than most of the cb offerings.
Where I ride looks like this so I think anything would break periodically.

agreed. if you're having a issue just popping out. mess with the cleat placement on your shoe, or mess with then tension on the pedal. there's sooooooooooooooo much to play with. i bet i could fix your problem.
the Times are quite nice. but i like being able to go into much more detail messing with the tension on them.
Just as an update on my broken Mallet C's... I got a prompt call back from Crank Brothers and I'm sending them in to get broken parts replaced. Apparently there is a specialty tool to get new beaters on the pedal. Return time was estimated at 5-6 buisness days until I have them back. Great company to deal with for sure.
