Hey, I'm an intermediate rider, and have mostly abstained from the tricking side of things. I've decided to give it a go, and tried learning tabletops today. I'm starting to understand how to do it, and it's quite exciting.

However... I've been using clipless pedals the last week or so--they're kickass for trail riding, and I love 'em.

I'm wondering if I should quickly throw my flats back on though. I'd like to learn tables, but I don't want to end up in the ER. I'm not sure if I'm going to come unclipped or what might happen. Does anyone do tables clipped in?

I am fairly competent with clipless pedals, as I've had them on my commuter bike for the last 2 years. It was only a few rides ago I put them on my FR bike.

Is it stupid to switch back and forth between clipless and flats, too? I'd rather just stick with clipless, but not if I can't learn any tricks that way.

Thanks.

P.S. I wasn't sure which forum to put this in, but I figure there are probably lots of clipless users here.

Learn on flats. Learn to switch between clips and flats depending on condition, and you'll be a way better rider.

i can table alright with clips. but if you're not use to them, go back to flats and do it there first.

hell laying on your back and holding a bike up, like you're riding up side down. it can really get you to feel the motion you need to be in

Yup. I rode clipless for about 5 years in the 90's. I went back to flats since and never used clipless again. My tables have only gotten better with flats. Plus youll realize your feet end up pretty damn far away from the center of the pedal when you really start to twist them flat(sometimes off on the down side and against the crank arm on the top side).
