Well, given the amount of discussion SS has gotten over the past few weeks, I'm interested in knowing how many of you plan on going to opening weekend now. I'll be there, but I won't be able to make it Friday.(graduation) Hope to see a lot of you guys there, and if you see me, try to refrain from vomit-imitation.(I'm looking at you, konabumm)

If the western lift is only running during race weekends, then I'll probably only visit SS 1x or 0x this year. Eastern side too short, shuttles too slow. Would like to visit more often because I like the setting and the long rocky western trails.

There is a possible of 10 in my group. with 5-7 more coming up from richmond. 2 bus's might not be enough. I hate when they start piling bikes on top of other bikes on the trailer.

haha, perhaps I should rephrase that. No "margaritas" that turn out to be grain alcohol. Ask Mr-I-sleep-in-Hummers...that stuff was pure gasoline.

Anyway, I don't know if any fo you guys were down there for the first monster park when we had a massive bonfire in the gravel parking lot at silvercreek. SS security came by, everybody bailed, he looked around at the fire for a minute, and then just drove off. Nothing more ever came of it. I think that sometimes they are even ok with bonfires if it isn't too dry. If that's the case the offical RideMonkey party should be an outdoor affair.

Yeah, not only that, but the only thing that would have happened had i got them back to my room would've been them having the distinct pleasure of watching me fall out of the truck, semi-crawl up the stairs, and then pass out on the couch using a fitted sheet for a blanket. This is how the rest of my night went, as best I can piece together.

Been a while since I was out there last. This time I've got the big bike though, not some wimpy 4.5in XC bike.

So how is Rob on the 7pt. Last time I rode anything big with him, he had the Yeti.

I've been riding a bunch lately, but mostly trail rides. The climbing fitness is there, but I'm a little out of DH shape. I'm sure it will be fine either way.

i'm flying out to Philly tonight to see the parents for a few days, then Wed to Charlotte. Can't wait!! :thumb:

I talked to a few of the shop guys at Massanutten, and I don't think there's gonna be anything new for opening weekend. However, they are definitely gonna have some new stuff up during the summer. Among other things, they said they were planning a trail on the basin side that was around a mile and a half to two miles that would be fun for beginners to practice their skills on, or more advanced riders to rail at high speed.

I was talking with turnerdhr this evening and he made a good point. With so many people coming, the shuttle could turn into a nightmare unless there are several running at one time. It would suck to get down there in time for the shuttle, only to have to wait for the next one because there wasn't room. Maybe some SS guys can clarify, because surely they have already thought of this and have it under control.

So whats the deal w/ camping at silver creek? I usually just sleep in my van, but my friend and i should be rolling up friday morn, and it would be cool if we had a place to pitch a tent. Does it cost any money to camp there, and can we leave our tent up during the day?

Mr Ridiculous
05-20-2007, 11:29 PM
Well, we're bringing a camper (psh, some outdoorsman we are). But anyway, it costs money to get the key to the hookups, but I think if you just pitch a tent, they don't charge you anything. Especially if you just show up and do it. And yeah, you can leave it up during the day. Whenever you get to silvercreek, turn left into the first gravel parking lot, and there you are.

KevinR86

Even with two shuttles running they can only handle about 50-60 people on the western side. From what I see here there is going to be alot more than that.

With as many people itching to see this, one of the bars is probably the best bet, although it might take some sweet talking to the manager or something. The Junction has a much bigger area and several TV's, so I'd try there first.

Yeah, you are right....Junction is bigger and more TV's. I guess we'll give them first shot.

The "sweet talking" should be $$$. I think the fight is only $40 or $50.

So if they charged everyone who wanted to watch $5.00 they will easily MAKE money.

I hope that works out.........I really want to see that fight!

demo dave this is the judge in Indiana. I think I rode with you at Snowshoe a couple times last year. I am planning on going over to WV on Thursday night. If you guys are riding Friday let me know. However, your idea about having a bar get the fight on ppv probably won't work. There are usually different rates for public places based upon the maximum capacity for the bar. The cover charge for each person would be much greater than $5 to $10.

Ahh good point. If that doesn't work, I'm not real sure what the next option would even be.

Oh well. WHO WANTS MARGARITAS?! EXTRA-SECRET INGREDIENTS AT NO COST!

There was a sports bar at silver creek last year. That may be a possibility. Or there is a new place at the top of the world, if they are open they may be doing something

So true, so true. I'm going to do my best to not wreck myself Saturday night, as I want to actually enjoy riding this weekend, and not be on the verge of throwing up and/or crapping my pants during every run.

Yea, the bar at silvercreek is on a new and different satellite system from snowshoe so if you don't have any luck at sn, Misty's Sports bar, they have 3 large screens, also some video gambling in the back room, make sure you spend a $hitload of money there, it keeps my homeowners due low.

Guitar, shmitar. I'm waiting for somebody to chime in with "keyboardists get all the honeys."

All musical differences aside, I'm freakin pumped for this weekend. Sounds like it's gearing up to be epic. Can't wait to see everybody.

Silvercreek Resort is always a good bet. it's halfway up the mountain and camping is free. i wouldn't pay $14 to camp 30 mins away, but thats just me.

Not really, it was kinda cool when ya got to sit next to hot muddy girls! There was free Full Throttle! 24 oz.'ers...while I wish we would have had a lift, and it sucked not having it, I have to say the fact I got to ride was cool....

No, I have internet access from the people above us... The park side was FRIKKIN DOPE!

I saw you from the lift. I rode the Park side right up until the downpour...It was AWESOME...I would have wanted to ride the western side more, but I decided to get more bang for my buck and get as many rides in as I could. The western side was a friggin blast, but there were SO MANY people....
