View Full Version : Adjusting Hayes lever reach requires a brake bleed?

I was mucking around with a Hayes Sole for a 14 year old. After screwing out the lever reach adjuster bolt, the brake lever would not activate the brake.

It would pull down to a certain point, about a half inch from the handlebar, but the brake pistons would only move slightly. I ended up screwing the adjuster bolt back in and the brakes worked again.

Do I need to bleed the brakes after changing the lever throw? And is this the case will all Hayes brakes?

I adjusted the throw on my Hayes Sole brakes and didn't have to bleed. Maybe you just got lucky?

Well, one thing to note is the 14 year old has small hands, so I was planning on changing the throw dramatically, about an inch.
