Can I use different brand rotors on different brand brakes? I've got some 203mm avid rotors I wanted to use on Hayes brakes. Will it work?

The diameter, thickness, and bolt pattern need to be the same. If in doubt, measure.
Don't worry about other differences.

All my Avid and Hayes stuff seems to be interchangeable. It's the cheaper aftermarket stuff that you have to be carefull with. The addage always holds true... "you get what you pay for".

Yeah, I bought a cheapo aftermarket rotor. Never worked right.
BTW, double check to be sure, but I am using Avid 200mm rotors with a Hayes front brake and a Shimano rear.

make sure the diameter, bolt patter and thickness are the same, if that is all the same you should be in good shape, you local bike dealer would be able to tell you.

Some brands measure the diameter in mm and some in inches. In the slight difference often lies the main problem.

Good question.
Avid rotors will work with no issues on Hayes brakes.
Bolt pattern to the hub are identical on these.
You can also use the hayes adapters for different sizes of rotors going to the avids if need be.
