Well, this weekend is coming to a close- less than one week to opening day! Who's going?
I should be there both days on my MC 9.5. Lots of new parts without much ride time, so I expect to be doing lots of tweaking as things break in...or just break.

Weather I looked at says maybe scattered storms on Friday, but clear on Saturday and Sunday. It's a week away, though, so who knows at this point.

Weather forecast looks clear during Sat and Sunday! Gotta go to my stack of tires and see what'd be best.
Work has burned me out so hard this week, I can't wait to be bombing down the mountain. My 66SL is teh suck, but whatever. As long as it sort of works I don't care.

Yeah, 9. It's a really fun trail. To get there, go straight off to the lift towards the race course start gate. keep going on the road past the gate; Tempest is right there. A few nice jumps. The end part is nice and flowy. Rock drop kind of comes out of nowhere; keep your eyes open.

No, I was on a Mountain Cycle. It's right near where the berm/stepdown on the open course is. It used to be a little roll in deal. Now it's a bunch of wood stuff. I slammed through it a few times...clipless definitely helped.

On Crap Shoot, after Dom's there's that berm that drops down into a choppy section. Well, they decided to put wooden "stairs" in there. It's nasty. They did a few things that I really don't like (the sand berms on Alpine and all of the "water bars"), but it was still a good day. Tempest is a pretty fun trail, and Phantom was quite smooth. Can't for the Open now!
jcook90
05-13-2007, 06:34 PM
yeah i learned the true power of the stairs today...came in a little fast and rather than go down the little smooth line to the left i went down them. both feet slipped the pedals at the same time, was on the back fo the seat for a few steps, bounced onto the tire then back up onto the seat, and slowly and painfully dismounted from my bike.
other than that, diablos as awesome as ever

great weather this weekend! i ended up borrowing an r9 frame for potential purchase and loved it. who was taking photos near the wall rides on alpine? i think there were a few taken of me near the end of sunday and i would like to check them out. i never really stop to session and take photos because we are always too busy riding. i was wearing an old green puma t-shirt and riding a blue r9.
i'm not sure what was up with all the installed logs (erosion? speed check?), but a few of them were fun to use as jumps into the berms. i was also dissappointed that BMW was closed... looking forward to hitting it up later this season.

wont the water make the dirt go in front of or over the logs leaving just logs after a rain storm. correct me if i am wrong but i think the old trenches were better?

it will wash the dirt out, they tried it on a section of waterboy last season and it didn't work. It would wash all the dirt out around and under it and there was a just log.
What I don't understand is why they don't quickcrete the berms so they don't get rutted out after the first month. Also why not quickcrete around the logs to prevent the dirt from washing out?

whistler dosent quickcreet berms. they let them get ridden for a week. after the week they close the trail and dig out the brake bumps. they then put cinder blocks in the dirt and cover them. brake bumps will never be more then 1 inch deep.

i will post some pictures of the stairs when i get home.

um i dont know what ur talking about but being that i was in whistler for a week and first hand experienced the brake bumps, they were way over an inch deep, and not one of the trails was closed once while i was there for any type of maintenance that youre talking about...

jcook90
05-14-2007, 05:28 PM
bruiser - ride to the top of alpine but continue down that fireroad. it'll go up to the right a little to crapchute, but its blocked off from that side. so take a right after it and then like the trail forks left or right where dom#4 went. go left and its right there
bruiser2
05-14-2007, 09:08 PM
a lil' confusing kuz i didn't know where dom #4 was but maybe i'll remember or ask sum1 there... thankx!
jcook90
05-14-2007, 09:39 PM
okay...fireroad past the top of alpine. it'll curve down to the left, then flatten out for a while. at the end of the flat it breaks to the right a little, then splits. go left. if you go past like a red barn/house building thing then u went the wrong way.
