1. About how big is the phantom drop? I've seen it in person but it was like 9 months ago and didn't hit it.:twitch: I'm deciding wether to do it...
2. Is the Transition smooth on the Phantom drop?
3.Dom's Denial? About how big?
4. Smooth transiton for Dom?
5. Flume, about how big?
6. Transition?
sorry 4 like alot of Questions, but i'm trying to make a few decisions on whether to hit them or not? Trying to think ahead and know like the size and how smooth. Thankx! Also, because i'm 13 and have a hardtail i take the landings very rough and don't have much power to hold the body up. so i am deffinnettely wanting 2 know the transitions and $hit. Thankx!

Start out with the 3 incremental drops near the SRAM berm. If you can do the biggest of the 3, you're probably ready for Phantom.
Doms is tricky to me because it's easy to carry too much speed and land near the bottom. It would kill me to bottom Doms on a hardtail!
Transition is good, but you have to land on the transition, i.e., don't come up too short or too long.
Take your time, you have all summer!! Oh yeah, a few push ups and dumbell curls 2 or 3 times a week will turn you into the Hulk by the end of summer.

2. Is the Transition smooth on the Phantom drop?
depends on the day, most of the time yes
3.Dom's Denial? About how big?
about 12 feet, hit with little speed, overshoot the wodden landing and prepare to be fall. also after landing try holding speed into the berm. (takes care of 4)
4. Smooth transiton for Dom?
5. Flume, about how big?
floom is 8 feet i think, the more speed you have the longer you are in the air
6. Transition? the transition is on a hill, good pitch to it only problem i found was at the end of the season mountain creek did some erosion control ditches. one happened to be at the bottom of the transiton. sucked because you had a nice flow and it was a sudden thud.
i would say floom or phantom are the easyest. the progresion drops near the sram berm get really rutted. especially the first one. i think this year a _ _ O _ on the new _ _ A I _ _E_ _ E _ _ will be really nice. I was there when shawn started it. cant wait to do it.:monkeydance:

I bet it says "i think this year a drop on the new trail tempest will be really nice." (I'm an honors student lol)...
and i know the Progression drops, i hit the low one on my first day there. I was gonna do the middle, but my fork was like super stiff then where i would only use like 20mm on a good day. It was a really F***** up marzocchi. Now i have a Fox and hope to hit: Phantom, middle progression, maybe top, flume. I'm considering dom because it looks scary as helllll! Road to nowhere is out of the question also. That thing scares the $hit out of me!!! But how big is the drop on tempest? what is it like?

he's being sarcastic.
phantom's super smooth, just pedal off it and your set. i'd do it on a hardtail.
i find flume to be hard to carry speed into often.
the biggest progression drop isnt very smooth, but its the biggest.
i've seen doms denial once, it was pretty nasty. gonna do it this year.

I wouldn't worry too much about the phantom drop, I hit it completely blind in an eight foot tall Moose costume and I'm still alive.

So if I've been doing the largest of the progression drops and the drop towards the bottom that spits you out under the lift; then phantom, dom's, and road to nowhere should be "do-able" (if I bring my balls with me)?
I never hit the phantom last fall because I get nervous when I can't see where I'm headed (I had the same phobia on the Broken Tooth drop at P-kill a few years ago, but overcame it once I knew where I had to leave the lip) and wasn't sure how much speed to carry.
I got out on that runway to RTN and almost fell off last fall because I was in the wrong gear...so, I need to conquer that one early this year too.

Honestly, none of the drops are hard. They take some cajones, for sure, but they are not technically difficult. Just go straight, land level and you're done. If you don't do anything dumb or freak out, then you're set.

What is the biggest thing at diablo?
I did the phantom drop on my hardtail a few times at diablo and then full suspension. Nothing seems to big there. I did dominion and such but I didn't get into anything really technical. Is there anything bigger than the "flume drop", "phantom drop", or "doms denial"?
PS: I'm just getting into downhill, so I want to see what to look forward too.
Thanks

He is right.... I've been saving for my bike for several years now (I'm 16 now). Got a yeti asx comming friday new in raw color w/ a fox 40. I'm just getting into downhill (I raced bmx, did park and street) and I'll be at duryea.
Word to the wise: whenever you have ahold of money, don't go buy that new cd, or a ps3 for $600 (haha) save what you have, and it will add up. Keep the eyes, on the prize.

also saving quarters adds up. like when u get change put it in a jar. i got like $100 sitting in my room in quarters, and thats like a race entry or a new tire

well i got it for 1,100$, which is cheap. and my confirmation is on friday so i'll be rolling in the big bucks!! plus i sold my hardtail to a friend for 750$. I had extra cash lying around so i combined my money and could afford the 7.3. To think i'm 13 years old buying this like huge bike for 1,000. I had to like argue with my dad to get it haha. and what are you doing with an Iron horse Sunday racing in intro category with me! That's just not fair!!! Also, what can u win in the Intro category? It doesn't say it on the site????!?!?

I have to agree with a couple of the others, there are no "big" drops at diablo. I have done all the drops including the new one on tempest, which by the way by far is the smoothest transition there. I also have to agree the biggest of the three side by side is the hardest landing there. I bottom my bike every time I drop that one. I have yet to drop road to nowhere but that's just because I just found it on my last run of the day last weekend for the first time. It looked very smooth but my son was with me and he didn't want to go out without me so we took the side line and left, next time I'll do road to nowhere it might even be as smooth as the new one on tempest.
