I'm new to mtb and I keep hearing about random places in Virginia to ride, but have no idea what people are talking about? I only know of Wakefield/495 and Fountain Head. What other places are there to ride in the Northern Virginia/Metro DC Area?
Rather than list all of the places, I'd recommend checking out this page on the MORE website:
http://www.more-mtb.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=25
You can get to that page by going to http://www.more-mtb.org and clicking the "Quick Links" drop down menu and selecting "Where to Ride".

495 is the only semi-legitimate dirt jumping spot in nova (and it's not really legal yet), and we have no legal freeride trails. rumour has it that they do exist... but for obvious reasons we have to be very 'fight club' about the locations.
best advice i can give you is to be friendly and get involved with the riding community, doors will open.
