A friend bought a broken dhr frame for the parts. The guy broke it was not the original owner so he kept riding it. It was cracked at a weld on the top tube were the brace connects downtube to the top tube..kind of weird spot for a crack.
My view has always been a cracked frame is pretty much through. But the guy that cracked this weld rode it for a couple months like this.
So it seems pretty stable, but what would be the process for welding this crack and having it repaired?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Call Turner. This problem is well documented. They are currently repairing these frames, including proper heat treatment Even if you aren't the original owner, they will give you SOME help.

Hey,
I had similar problems, with one strut on my DHR's shock mount cracked right through. Other struts had stress fractures, and were on the way out. I sent it to a local frame repairer, who completely removed the old mount, manufactured new brackets, and welded it in. Then powdercoated a (faster) red colour. Before and after pics attached.
Incidentally, I approached Turner, who said they would fix it for me under warranty, even though the bike is a couple of years old. As for leaving it cracked, I would worry about the extra stress on the frame around the main pivot.

did you heat treat it afterwards?

Good god, I hope so. Or the heat from the new weld is going to weaken one of the major stress areas. :twitch:
