Absolutely. Due to warm weather a few weeks ago we've had the luxury of starting the cleanup/build season earlier than in prior years.
Trail renovations and maintenance is ongoing and this past week we've started on a new trail called "tempest" that will feature a host of intermediate jumps and other features. The trail is in its early stages , but we did complete a few tables and expect most of them to be around the size of the jumps on upper dominion. The trail is located near the Domination Course start area and will offer another unique machine groomed alternative to the popular Upper/Lower Dominion to Alpine line. Photos coming soon.

And when can you fellas start improving those old XC trails up top? It would be great to get the heart rate up before bombing the DH trails. Besides, need more S.O. trails for the folks that enjoy riding, but not tricking DH trails. Didn't you guys have an XC race up there years ago?

But they used to have 3 XC races a year on those trails. Yea, lots of the trees were tight, but that's what kept the ATVs out of there. It would be nice to be able to bring a beginner to Diablo.

XC stands for Xtra Crazy. So start building.
Why would you pay for a ride up a chair lift to ride XC anyway?

I rode the XC trails a couple years ago, before they completely de-generated. Not bad. Fun, tech XC. The final run down the DH trails (on my XC hardtail) was great- worth the $7 lift ride to the top.
I do wish the XC trails were up and rideable again, as it would be easier to bring a mixed group of XC and DH riders out for the day. We roll with 10-15 guys for DH days, but if there were XC trails, we'd bring along another 10 or so XC'ers and everyone could ride the same place.
But ultimately, I'd prefer to see Diablo build a top-to-bottom beginner DH trail that even kids could roll, like Whistler's Magic Carpet zone. That'll do more than XC trails to bring new riders in...

agree. all they'd really have to do is mow an erratic swath down one of the runs like wisp and all the tiny groms and old women would have something smooth to bomb on their 3 inch hardtails.

Hey Sean think about it, he's got a good point

Get off the lift and go to the right. Upper dominion to flatline riding the fire road to upper breakout to lower breakout down alpine or that other trail next to it I cant recall the name down the sram berm and fire road the rest of the way down. You can’t get any easier then that on that mountain. Those trails are super smooth. If you have somewhat decent bike control and braking control (not skidding) you will be fine.

The route you describe is far, far more difficult than Whistler's Magic Chair runs that they market to kids and families.

I have to agree...Breakout is easy for most of us but far beyond most real beginners. Places like Mt. Snow, Killington and Snowshoe have much easier trails for beginners. I'm gonna take a friend this year for his first time, he dosen't ride much other than an occasional XC ride. I would never bring him to Diablo his first time, we'll probably go to Hunter.
