OK I have a fox dhx 5.0 06' model with 8 inches of travel. I should set it up to 25-30 percent sag. So 2 inches for for 25 percent sag correct? My question is how do you start at zero sag and how to do you know when you should stop turning the spring. another question everywhere I read it says to turn the preload ring. But I cant! I turn the coil which moves the preload ring is that the way im suppose to do it? Also how do I measure how much sag ive obtained? is it from both end of the shock that have a bolt? sorry im really new to this and the manual is only semi helpful.

Look on fox racing shox web site. They have a little move to show you exactly how.

ok i just saw the video. clears up alot but wheres the starting point of sag. What I mean by that is how do you know when to stop turning clock wise to start at zero sag?

firstly completey un-wind the preload ring and measure the leangth of the spring. Wind the pre load ring just so it holds the spring captive. Then follow the instructions on the video. sit on the bike etc. If the shock is sagging more than the frames recomended amount the wind on half a turn of preload then try again, check sag etc. if you need more than 2 full winds of preload to get the correct amount of sag, you need a heavier spring.

You should also set your sag while on a slope say 15-20 degrees, seeing as it is a bike made for going downhill.
Doing it this way you'll end up being a little softer in the rear and a little stiffer in the front.
