Yes, the Passion, (see big angry thread here (http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=166474)), all other VST bikes, and furthermore, new bikes at all are not coming from sinister anytime soon. definitely not in 2007.

says right here. (http://sinisterbikes.com/news07.htm)

"We also have some new designs in the works and some old ones on hold. Ok, I can't tell you about the new stuff yet but can say that we will NOT be releasing any VST designs in 2007. Due to the price of continued R+D, we just plain need more time to develop the system. We will have some very suitable replacements coming out that are gonna crush it!
In the meantime......get out and ride, surf, climb and just have fun@##!!!

sad news, indeed. to me, the most different and innovative suspension design in years. from a company with an impeccable quality record. really hope it comes to fruition eventually.

I just want to see what comes out in its place (for the time being).

I'm still planning on lining up when the Poison gets released.

hahaha, so wait a sec. The Passion was touted as the be all and end all in suspension technology, but they are gonna release something in its place as a substitute that will crush it?

Man, I wish my backup plans were better then my original plans. I'd try to fail all the time.

Will Sinister Release something in place of the Passion? I feel like they really need a bike that fits into the AM/FR category right now.

Ouch. It hurts me how much you are not down with the lingo. "Crush it" simply means "rule" be "cool" or "work well". For example: "I scoped this fool out at the hook today, he was fully crushing it."

Sounds like it's postponed, not cancelled. Got a chance to look at/play around with the Passion at a frame builder seminar here a while back, seemed pretty interesting. Frank's an evil genius!

this is definitely what i thought as well. Frank isn't the kind of rider/builder/designer to totally can something like the passion. Sinister is dedicated to quality in the bikes, so the best I can gather is that they weren't satisfied with what they've done with it so far, so instead of pushing it to market they're holding off until they are totally satisfied with the product. As the original post states, financial reasons are (probably) playing a big part in this.

I agree, it is contradicting. I blame skyes poor wording though. He should have read his post alittle more carefully.

I for one am pretty dissapointed that the frame has been postponed. I've been lucky enough to mess around on the vst bikes a number of times, and it's the real deal. No hype, just function. Its one of those bikes that I would pay full retail and wait all year for despite being a shop employee or under different sponsorship.

I think the delay is justifiable though. After riding the first early proto, and then the updated proto, there was a significant difference. It's wise on franks part to perfect the bike as much as he can before releasing it into the shark tank that is ridemonkey's downhill forum.

In addition, with the company switching ownership and relocating over the winter, I think its smart financially. Spending the season welding production bikes and bringing sales up to speed is probably better than releasing a yet-to-be-revised proto and trying to catch up with orders.

Final word: Bike is not hype. I'm upset I dont have mine. I think its best they postpone it until next year.

I'm bummed. The two am bikes that I was really looking forward to checking out this year were the Passion and Sunn's Kern.

Guys,
The aforementioned blogger has his head between his knees already.

The VST bikes are NOT cancelled, and we have not stopped prototyping. They will not see production this season though, as Sinister needs to focus on fuffilling demand for the current bikes.
The "new" bike is a short travel slalom/mini-dh single pivot.
The "it" it is going to crush would be the ground I would assume certainly not VST technology.

There are at least 3 other new frames that will see production this year as well, and there is a plenty of VST development going on as well.

Don't worry. Transitions can be rocky, but I assure everyone FTW is locked, loaded and building product and protos like a mad man.

It hurts me how much you missed the sarcasm and teasing in my post. I am perfectly aware of what "crush it" means, but if you read EXACTLY what he wrote, it very much looks like he is saying the substitute bike will crush the VST stuff.

See? ;)

not surprised, but I'd love to see them iron out the kinks. Cannondale couldn't do it, and lord knows they have the capital and will to do whatever they want.

For The Record

I'm aware of the distinction between postponed and cancelled. I knew more people would pay attention if I exaggerated.

and I more or less agree with everyone about sitting on something till it's perfect is a good idea.

I never really expected it to come out in 2007 anyway. I'm just stoked sinister is finally going to make bikes designed to be pedaled while seated. whatever they are.

i dont understand why sinister canned the splinter so fast, why not keep it around? they now have no freeride bikes in their line up and in my opinion the spliter was one of the best bikes ever made

I agree the splinter is a very nice bike. Rumor has it the ER is making a come back even lighter than before. There will be a FR bike soon enough.

I sure wish I knew. My Splinter MX just kills it. (Which is sorta like crushing it,only more so).

If Sinister products were computer software, they would be the anti-Microsoft. Make sure the bugs are out, then release the product.

Well clearly the Splinter wasn't crushing it, which is the watermark for these frames. Killing it just isn't good enough, nor is slaughtering it. If its an xc frame, its allowed to simply destroy it, but wrecking it is just not good enough.

Wow, if the temporary Passion replacement is going to crush it, think of the possibilities for the Passion itself. It's going to crushkillslaughterstroy it!
