What type of DH? Competitive riding and racing or just tooling around with your friends? How heavy of a bike?

I personally wouldnt run them on a DH bike because Im not the biggest fan of shimano parts in general and Deore is one of their "budget" part lines.

All shimano brakes after the old xt 4 pots work great.

And even some of those worked well.

you can run them if your feeling lucky man, but i personally would never put any shimano brake on my dh bike unless it was a set of saints. i had a set on my old xc bike and well they werent exactly the most powerful things out there, and then trying to make them stop a 40+ lb dh rig would just be well murder for those things. can you say brake fade.

I have them on my trail bike with a 6" rotor in the rear and 8" in front.
They are not very powerful and not suitable for DH.
They are, however very reliable and easy to work with , they are cheap and I like them with EBC pads.

Yet another highly knowledgeable post brought to you by frznnomad.

All shimano 2-pot brakes run the same hydraulic leverage ratio (same master cylinder piston diameter, same slave piston diameters). The only performance difference will be the included pads - the resin pads (M07/M07S) included with deore/LX/XT don't cut the mustard for dh, however the metal ones from the hone/saint (M06) drop straight in and given the same alignment/bleed will give you identical performance to saints.

Any performance difference once running the same pads will be down to a setup problem - ie alignment, bleed, contamination. As a side note, i've found the two piece calipers easier to bleed firm that the one piece calipers too.

The benefit in running monoblock (ie saint) is that they are lighter, have an easier pad removal due to the threaded pin as opposed to the "clip fit" pin, have an easier hose setup due to no olive fitting at caliper end, and have a longer lasting lever pivot due to DU+steel bushings as opposed to plastic ones. And they CAN be bled firm, it just takes a little more time/effort (probably a function of fluid path inside the caliper and having a few more places for air bubbles to stick).

So to the thread starter - yes, go for it, and grab two pairs of M06 (full sintered) metal pads while you're at it. :)

woah woah woah. what in the hell did i ever do to you man. hey now look, im sorry im not an engineer and dont know all this leverage ratio crap for every brake system out there, but im doing what i can to help out a fellow rider. im sorry i like to spend more time on the bike than more time worringabout the leverage ratio of all the brakes out there. im going by feel of other brakes i have used and what i think would be the best IMO. if you dont like that then that is your problem. if you dont like my post then just ignore them nobody is asking you to read them.

I have these brakes on my New 07 Trek, I do alot of freeriding and DH. Here in Germany your either climbing a hill or haulin downhhilll. I am not a light person either. The brakes have never shown brake fade or let go. They are awsome IMHO. I would buy again anyday.
