A few quick pen strokes from Gov. Bill Richardson and decades of contentious debate in New Mexico came to an end. The second-term governor and Democratic presidential candidate had done something no other politician in New Mexico's history had accomplished. "This is a historic day," Richardson said solemnly. "Today, New Mexico bans cockfighting."

as a kid, my folks raised fighting chickens and pit bulls (along with other livestock). Great fun was had on Friday family nites at the chicken pit. it was legal to fight chickens but illeagal to bet on them although everyone did. even as a 3rd grader, i could call bets with the rest of them.

damn good times.

I don't know of a chicken that would stand a chance against a pit bull. Maybe a small poodle, but they need to be in at least the same weight class. Wha a sucker bet that is.
